Antipodean island revellers:
Caucasian Norsemen and
descendents of traders in flesh
Rasta steel band in full, rhythmic flow -
acres of smooth-polished muscle
vibrating round burnished steel drums
How thin white beauties
gyrate their response!
All needle-point stilettos,
stiffened sinews and
razor-sharp bones...
Courtship grinds and sparks
Local girls behind the bar,
alight with heat and attitude
Brazen as strings of boastful black pearls
they serve easy smouldering glances,
share simmering emotional intelligence
with each of the pent-up players
More passion kindles casually
as they go about their work
than is forged in the furnace
of white beauties' fancy fretwork
How our thin white beauty
leaves them steely-cold...
How our hard-won bronzed veneer
can never make us brown
What can I add to the reviews of others? Another superb masterpiece from a poet who draws deep into her well of creative genius. I always think that you cannot possibly get better and then you surprise me. You are such an inspiration.

Brava!Bellisimo!
You have thoughts in this that are reminiscent of
my "Different Skin" poem.
Enjoyed your version immensely, Kate.
Your words are so colorfully expressive that the reader jumps right in and experiences the moment first hand. The acres of smooth-polished muscle caught my attention with a definite zing to my..umm...senses..yeah that's it! Wonderful work, Kate, I truly enjoyed this read.

yeah, if I was brown I would save many thousands..But just have to work, lazing in the heat of summer..
Powerful write. Love the blend of cultural elements and contrasts like a very bold painting shouting loud and brilliant colors at the panting anxious hearts of the world.

This is very unique and just as interesting as the painting.
What I feel has been said Kate! You do paint words with a masterful brush, and it is always vibrant like a Gauguin canvas full of vivid life!Superb poem!
Kate your words weave a wonderous tribute to a fantastic poet and a favourite of mine. You have created a rich tapestry of imagery and as always your work never fails to impress.
