Adapted from thoughts from Nadine Gordimer's definition of the short story.
SEAL
With the intensity of molten mettle
words spill onto page,
searing minds, scorching eyes,
wrapping tightly skin-like
round a heart.
They're dripping seeds
of life-giving drops:
pools of teeming fluid -
saliva, semen, blood.
The poem sprawls,
seeping into unknown cracks.
Or it coagulates like hardening wax,
marking its boundaries;
snake-like encircled
it bites its own tale.
Moulding, forming,
encasing me wholly -
casting the mask
of the me I cannot see;
which, when peeled away,
reveals the face of you.
To paraphrase Emily Dickinson, this one knocked the top off my head and left no doubt that I had read a great poem. Enjoyed it very much.

I swear, Kurly Kate, you could plop down on a page in a dictionary, record the words, string them together as you wish and Voila! poetry! If we humans have no hope of being perfect, how come I find poetic perfection when I read you? ok, ok... don't try to tell me you're not human... it won't wash... because one need only read you to hear your heart, see your smile, catch glimpses of your fluttering, fine soul. You are a gift, dear heart. kollapsed katy xox (no longer 'missing in action') hehe.

This is nothing less than perfection, Kate. Your words sucked me in and held fast until the last letter was digested. The final verse was a straight shot that burned the reality of your words into my soul.
Take care,
Sherry
What beautifully concepted analogies, Kate!
I think I had better enroll in a school like the one
you have gone to. It has brought out the very best in you.
I hate to sound like I keep repeating myself, but after the
comment by Ace...what can I say...except to agree with him?
