SOUL FOOD

My soul is a tigress
roaring behind bars.

She paces - rare, white, beautiful
- and the teeth of her smile.

Gleaming she purrs
as sinuous she stalks,
pressing against the iron stays.

Catch her eye, it's feeding time!
Hungry, she will be kind
and swallow you whole,

Nursing you as precious warmth
in the snug, sweet soft of her belly.

Just read your kind message and had to check out Soul Food quickly and blimey! Kate, you are absolutely right! We are on the same page! But at least this tigress is not in a cage by choice and she is brave enough to stalk and swallow one whole ... lol ... unlike in "The Caged Tiger".

God bless!

Sandie.

Kate,

I love white tigers--and your words. It would be an honor to be eaten whole LOL

WOW, the visuals! I think someone's tired of being out of commission! You're pacing(at least in your head)like a tiger in a cage and swallowing your food whole. Ah Kate, hope you'll be up and at 'em soon...

I am glad to hear that you have done a satisifying cat stretch and made your back feel better. There is somthing soothing about the movements of cats, though one would be wise to constantly wonder what was on their minds. Very nice write, Kate. I really enjoyed this one.
Take care,
Sherry

Yikes, Kool Kate!

Some poems suggest reading between the lines... this is triple-spaced to make room for all the possibilities, in my opinion (opinion 38, the one I reserve for you). This piece consumed me, dared my brain to look away, which, of course, it could not do. There's the unquestioning power of this subject, yet she's behind bars. Being swallowed whole, yet it's presented as an act of kindness toward the "meal"... Ahem. Then there's the visuals, clear and aching, that such a 'creature' should have the indignity of being held, without freedom to go. All this as a metaphor about your soul... one human (you) making a connection with another of the same species (me) and once again my eyes and head and heart AND soul thank me for being able to read. You take the kake, kate...katy xox

Powerful imagery here, Kate. The dichotomy of fear and nurture move easily through your words. Terrific write.
