OK, so now I'm high on both Anne Sexton AND sudden thoughts of the possibility of a brief return to Spain when I've completed my course at the end of September... you try and stop me!! :)) K xx

LA VUELTA

“Or perhaps, my darling,
because it is early afternoon,
I will forget that my voice is full of good people,
forget how my legs could sprawl on the terrace,
forget all that the birds might witness,
the torn dress, the shoes lost in the arbour,
while the neighbour’s lawnmower bites and spits out
some new little rows of innocent grass.”

Anne Sexton, “Your Face On The Dog’s Neck”

Because in Spain we were free;
because on holiday it was never “too early” –
or “too late”;

because the terracotta tiles were warm
and bikinis made things easy;

because there were only the mesmerised cattle
and the sound of them tearing parched grass
outside our boundary wall --

perhaps we will leave again
the temperance of this English summer

and return to welcome heat of knowing dust,
speaking words that are our own.

A nice, warm ending on this poem, as though one hates the thought of leaving for a minute. A soothing tone to this piece, Kate.

Yes, you are in love with language. :-) It's so evident in your poetry. You've got a natural gift that is being honed moreso by your studies, and you growth is astounding. Reading you is always a treat, Kate. Like the upgrade on the bio page too. ~~Nordette

Kate, before I begin, I must LOL at what Poet’s Soul said, because it was the very first thought that crossed my mind, my gifted friend. However, once I settled down and began traversing through the wonderful texture and well-balanced poetry you’ve presented, I easily became excited about a place I have never been. One can always become reenergized by visiting another country where the beautiful and serene surroundings you have so fluently described. It’s always a wonderful pleasure and learning experience to visit your Den, and hopefully you’ll have another opportunity to visit a place where it is obvious held dear to your very being. Thank you for sharing your work and brilliant mind. Take good care and be well.

Enchanting! That is the word that comes to my mind. Enchanting and romantic. Your poem and photos make me homesick for a place that I've never been. I can see myself sitting there overlooking that breathtaking scenery while trying to capture its image on canvas; Feeling the freedom from time and all its restraints. <sigh> Love, Leah

Ah Kate, I've missed your poetry. I've always admired your unique approach and incredible ability to express. I read this and disappeared for a few moments in happy reverie. Thank you for the escapism. I can't wait to get tucked into the all the rest that I've missed.
