FREEDOM

I keep the curled feather
I found on the bedroom floor,
fallen mysteriously through the silence
like a tender farewell kiss;

it’s pressed between clamouring pages,
like a peaceful waxy petal,
like a leaf that won’t dissolve.

It’s the soft tissue that separates
here and now and now and then;
it speaks of veiled departures
and of hesitant arrivals.

I slip between its filaments
and fly, light as air.

Like that moment, the inter-space
between waking and asleep,
it’s special as the soft underbelly
of the dove my mind has touched.

I never thought to describe a dove in that way. We called our son(that passed away)our dove...partially because of the peace he brought with his presence, and with his passing...sometimes I feel his spirit near, and as you say...it is light as air...
Thanks for sharing this, Kate.

"it’s pressed between clamouring pages,
like a peaceful waxy petal,"

This is why you regularly blow my mind, Kate, with your writing. Two little lines, so packed with inspired poetry, creative expression. You personify the pages, then juxtapose "clamouring" with "peaceful"... it's the stuff that makes me glad I can think, that I can imagine, and... that I can learn, for this is how it's done, when it's done right. To read what I've never read before in ways I've not seen it expressed is the cornerstone, to me.

Similes, metaphors... oh, to pack a lunch, some beer or tea, and grab a chair and sit in your head while you compose. What a lovely imagining that is. katy xox

You have created an ambience of desire, a place where touch is sacrosanct. Line 4 of first stanza (coz each reperesent a different room) is suggestive; slants are excellent, throughout! I like the line breaks and the elusive, missing feel in this...You have raised the bar to pole vault levels in high jump comp (just kidding!).

I am truly in awe of your poetry. I've been in a numb state for months. No thoughts come to me. But your poetry shows me that you are surrounded by beautiful ideas, so I revel in them.

Kate, do you know how often I've read your words and sat in my chair, fingers poised above the keyboard but at a complete loss for words? You are such an inspiration but you also raise the benchmark so high that I feel like a fumbling schoolgirl in the presence of a great poetic scribe. I can only aspire to write half as well as you do. I'm not jealous (oh yes I've suffered little pangs of envy) but I am mostly in awe. There can only be one you and you will inspire many with your words. That is such a wonderful and precious gift and you use it well. Fantastic poetic foray here. *sighs*
With continued admiration... Chanti

This is outstanding, Kate. Your words dropped me into that soft and dreamy place where all is right with the world and life takes on a soft focus. You had me floating like a feather on a breeze with all of the sweetness of life dripping onto me like warmed honey from a sunbeam. Your poem is a meditative moment in itself. Wonderful poetry!
Take care,
Sherry

Oh Sweet Kate such soft whispers of love and heart feelings here, so serene and other wordly. You are right though the title doesn't express the sheer silky feeling of this one and the magic you have put into it. Like the poem it needs something soft and dreamy that also hints of love and affairs of the heart. That is only my humble opinion the poem is on of the best.

Hugs,
Felix
