This isn't personal - it's just that my overdose of Anne Sexton seems to have shot me into outer orbit at the moment... the Dark Side of the Moon is... Dark... K xx (PS I hope it doesn't take until after Christmas for me to Cold Turkey...)

THE LIVING AND THE DEAD

“But suicides have a special language.
Like carpenters they want to know 'which tools'.
They never ask 'why build'.”

Anne Sexton, “Wanting To Die”

In the churchyard you can hear it:
mounded earth sinking silently
is the gentle intake of breath,
the relief of the dead
as unseen they get up and
rearrange their furniture,
free to be alone.

I leave and go back
to my habited domain –
to the roof tiled with grass
and my blessed walls of timber;

sleeping in my living grave
at the end of another restless day,
I dream of no tomorrow.

We are reluctant to admit that we all walk the dark side on occasion, retreat inward and shut the door to block the living so we can nurture our wounded souls. This is such an adequate description of meloncholia as to cause a shudder of recognition...

This is a dark and brooding piece and worthy of your nemisis Anne Sexton.I am glad you told us this is not personal cause I would hate to think of my Sweet Kate feeling so morose. By the way thanks for the well wishes and I am feeling much better today.
Hugs,
Felix

You make Anne Sexton proud, Kate. I'm trying real hard to lift myself out of the place where one dreams of no tomorrow, so I'd best move on for now. Will revisit when I am more equipped to maintain proper perspective and appreciate the subtelties. Hope your weekend is going well and a bit more "up" :) Dawn

ok, Kate, you have succeeded in dragging me down into the gloom of doom with this excellent poem. Rich and dark your words paint a place where life is a boring, painful struggle and death the portal of bright light leading to a better place. I sure am glad this isn't about you. I think it is time for you to get out and PARTY!!!
Take care,
Sherry
