... Another naff title, so suggestions, again, welcome. My Tutor wondered if there was anything "different" I could do with The Spider's Prayer poem... so this is it: COMPLETELY different, but inspired by the same quote! Although minimal and in prose, it has become an instant favourite, for some unfathomable reason. My thoughts and prayers with all those caught up in the devastation of that wild cat, Katrina. LOL Kate xx

SEEING

“I had noticed the cobwebs
and the shoaling of light…
Isn’t that a kind of prayer?
The care and maintenance
of the web of our noticing,
the paying heed?”

Kathleen Jamie, “Fever”

The blind man lives alone in a loft on the seafront. There he hangs villagers’ nets to dry and mend, aware only of lattice shadows falling on his spent retinas. With each new net he spreads his arms wide, embracing the waters that cover the earth. His sensitive fingers slowly feel their way across its surface, looking for the bony knots or slippery ruptures. He unpicks the tangles and fixes the tears, making good the damage.

I can smell the mousehole village. See it too.

Made me think of those ruddy faces they have.

Another keeper here Kate. The feeling it gives. And sadness that this way of life is ending..

Oh! I love this, Kate. The blind man sees with his fingers and mends the nets in the same way that the spider sees with his feet as mends his web. Both are seeing but not with their eyes. What a magnificant visual you have woven in this short bit of prose. Wonderful, Wonderful!! One to keep and read when I have a moment when I think something is impossible.
Take care,
Sherry

Oh beauty, Katydid! The intricacy of a web is incredible and if damaged(a hard task as it's tensile strength is phenomenal)a spider will weave a new web without faltering. The analogy of the fisherman's skill is brilliant and crafted with intuitive understanding. A fine lesson woven here, ty!

Such depths you reach with this prose Kate! A wonderfully
uplifting message contained within. We can see with so much
more than eyes.

Joy and Peace,
Eileen
