Am feeling a touch belligerent...CAN'T think why?! :)) Today, I am fed up with always cowtowing to the question "Why?", and simply ask myself: "Why the hell NOT?" And stuff-it to a life of "Don't"s... here's to "Do"s instead! Even if it's only to smile at the old lady across the street (... I said, "smile", Andy, not "leer"! :)), just show someone you CARE today! LOL Kate xx

Oh, and the poem... yes, me Tutor likes me prose-y.

PLAYING AT FAIRIES

The fairy costume: not exactly a diaphanous confection of chiffon, or a delicate haze of bees’ wings; more a prickly netted tutu, weighted with an apron of heavy satin petals – but it was for my first lead role at five: Thumbelina. The Ugly Duckling transformed for just a few minutes – swapping clumpy brown lace-ups for sweet-smelling rosy slippers and softening the severe short lines of my hair with a wanton floral garland. Balanced cross-legged on a card-table lily pad, I mimed to the scratched-vinyl music of the Hans Christian Anderson tale; with a practised star-struck gaze, my tiny body thrilled with the life of every little duckling “quack”. I know Mum was proud when the woman next to her in the audience whispered: “Don’t put your daughter on the stage!” But there it was again: another fragile attempt at flight dashed by just that one word: “Don’t”.

It's too bad that children have to be forced to become mythical creatures adults imagine. I can see a homosexual father dressing his child now. Fairies come in all sizes and persuations.

There are people who are joy-robbers, who from their black souls seem to have the compulsion to spread their misery...oh sorry Kate, but this resonates as clear as a bell to me. What a picture you paint! This is wonderful prose...Ty, Lin

Oh this is so sweet I can almost picture you there in your little costume looking so cute. Forget the negatives we can do anything we want we are the writers of the past present and future, if they don't believe us just tell them to ask us. Great work sweet Wendy Kate.

Delightful prose whimsical as the Kate who wrote it;-)
With a tad of sad, by the way some people never learned
how to behave with grace. But you Kate are a doer and risk
doesn't enter into it, thank goodness! My kind of fairy;-)

Love,
Eileen

Don't and Can't are two words that should be stricken from the english language and replaced by Go Ahead and Try. To discourage anyone from persuing a dream, even a silly little girl dream is a shame. We should always encourage! Think of how different things would be today if someone discouraged Steve Jobs and Bill Gates!
This is a very sweet write, Kate, I love the innocence and preciousness of it. YOU HAVE A TUTOR???? How lucky are YOU??? I am jealous, as I limp through my writing.
Take care,
Sherry

Nevermind that woman next to your "mum" klucking-swan kate! Ha! Didn't you know those people are paid to sit next to our mothers and fill their ears with snottiness? Yep... Eventually, all the mothers got together and now we have an international law that if "she" sits next to us, we have the right to stuff that extra tutu into her always-large blabber! Harrumph... I have no doubt that you floated across the stage, beamed with humility and grace, sang like a nightingale and, of course, created the very first swan that grinned! That's me Kate.

Whenever someone says "Don't" do what I do: turn off your hearing aids and smile. Being cheeky is a survival necessity. Carry on.... kodliver katy xox (grin)
