UP

Flying in from Spain, cabin windows
screen dusky light through
chilly condensation.

Outside scenes are sampler
coloured cross-stitch,
handiwork of ordered
English countryside:
overworked, overpopulated,
but still I’m overawed.

I was meant to be in Andalusia
again this week, but life
has taken a different turn;
Seville was visited instead
by weakened tornado winds,
diverted mid-Atlantic.

Shielded, perhaps, from one storm;
head to wind now in another:

I have a mind’s eye picture of rough seas
crashing against the base of sheer hard rock…

Someone talks of phases,
changing scenes of a mountain climb;
or of going not over but through.

All I hear is “the only way is up”…

Overawed but ready, God,
I’m strapped into your jump jet.

Overawed but ready, God,
I’m strapped into your jump jet.

And I was captivated by this inspirational piece, Kate - Hang In There, and Up, Up, and Away.

Only you can make a fear of an airplane crash or at least the possibility of one into an inspirational poem that makes me want to have more faith and be a braver person. Keep leading and showing us the way dear Kate.

I was reading Cuelho serious very recently, your poem brought memories of the same. A very good poem, and an excellent expansion of the central metaphor in this.

i admire your positive attitude and your natural ability to be ready for the next hurdle in the midst of a storm ...

All I hear is “the only way is up”…

indeed you will venture its direction ...

Your openess with your feelings and emotions amazes me, Kate. I sense some fear, but I also sense a strong resolve. You are ready to face whatever it is you will need to, hoping and praying, of course, for it to be as minimal as possible. You have grit and courage, Kate, I have the deepest admiration for you. I would be running the gambit from high to low, from acceptance to denial. You forge onward knowing that whatever happens, you are going to give it your best shot. I am in awe of your strength.

Take care,

Sherry

Your honesty in the depths of your fear mingled with faith
are a light to others, Kate! God's love is your parachute
and a light in the storm, Kate.
I pray you'll have a soft landing...Love, Lin

The storms of life soon abate and we wonder what was all the sweat about. Faith in God is all we need to get us through the worst life can throw at us. You are still in my prayers.

Spain is indeed a wonderful place. My roots are in the Iberian Peninsula on one side of my family and Great Britain on the other. I can picture both the seas crashing against the rocks and the cross-stitched English countryside. This is a lovely write, especially for someone like myself who can't wait for her next visit to Europe. This storm provided a wonderful creation through your talented pen.

The only way is up - Baby- That song will now be in my mind all night..

was meant to be in Andalusia

again this week, but life

has taken a different turn;

Seville was visited instead

by weakened tornado winds,

diverted mid-Atlantic.

Think I had the Butcher from Seville take my tooth out yesterday.

God surely has you under his wing of protection..

Just let him Captain you through any turbulence one may endure along the flight..

Whilst the Angelic cabin crew give you a seat with a view..

Prepare for take off..

You Look FatCalgary by RickthePoetWarrior

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
