RIDING BAREBACK ON THE WIND


Present but not here, I inhabit that place
that’s straight on til morning,
dwell in a time that rides bareback
on the wind.

Like the lift in Marilyn’s infamous white dress
or deep plunge of Superman’s daredevil dive,
the life of the unseen, the unknown
ricochets round walls that are ringing with laughter;
spirals giddy down the helix of world’s DNA;
beholds unamazed the wide grin of my God
posed winking and gleaming for the cameras of stars.

Swallowed up in the deep throat,
the manifest of His appearing,
I’m a dancer raised high
on invisible hands; elevated
to heights by insuperable energy.

Rising and falling, I am - all at once -
back then as here now, constant but changing;
I’m the life of the sea
riding bareback on the wind.
