Just nipped in to say... Night, night! :)) xx

ODE TO SLEEP

Speaking my language,
you interpret my bad translation
of life.

You obliterate the sky and dull
the clamour of the day,
hiding my escape route,
enabling my getaway.

You open your arms to me like a mother,
make yourself a perfect fit for my need;
your care makes me beautiful,
feeding my potential.

Like strong arms of a protector
you absorb my indiscretion,
covering my embarrassment
when I’m overcome with faintness.

You lay me like a lover,
shield me with a white flag of peace
that delicately masks all horizons of pain,
sweetening the bitter pill
of all that remains unresolved.

I am lost, sinking deeper into you –
like a bird who has lost the will to fly…

but you give me wings.

This is such a meaningful ode to sleep. How often have I sought shelter there and your beautiful poem expresses the wonder of sleep so well. Thank you for sharing this gift, Kate. Love and peace to you,

This poem soars, Kate. Sleep is greately needed. It is a healer and replenisher. I understand your statement "you give me wings" not only because I know rest replenishes physical energy, but mental as well. The creative part of your brain works the hardest when you're asleep. When you wake up refreshed and surprisingly inspired you write your next poem like it'd been written for you because your conscious mind brings forth with great ease, that which during your hours of sleep, it workd so hard to interpret. Great poem!

Such depth and emotion is graced in this poems flight. This one held such visions of submission for me to a greater power even though we fight it all along the nature of ourselves. We sometimes need that unseen revelation to give us wings to rise where there is healing and peace. This is stunning thank you for inspiration I received reading wishing you best of all things.

And it's a getaway we all truly need quite often - Night, Night, Kate!

Love holds such power as does your poetry dear Kate. May you continue to soar into this year with ongoing inspiration. You inspire all you touch with your precious words. Praying that your will strengthens as does your health.

When you wake up in the morning, Kate, there will be two swan feathers under your pillow. I visited in your dreams and tucked them under your head cushion to let you soar as high as you will with your writing days. They are physical markers to test authenticity and value. Sarasvati, Indian goddess of knowledge, rode a swan. She is worshipped in libraries. And, so I give you your wings. Fly with instruction and grace.

Oh Kate, only you could change my thoughts about sleep. This is beautiful and it makes me feel better about my "avoidance" in the winter. I sleep and sleep. Sometimes until 11:00 a.m. And then I feel guilty because there are things to be done. But I need the rest for my immune system disease. This poem makes sleep sound delightful and it should be. When my children were small, I would have given anything for this luxury, so I should enjoy it, right? Thanks, Kate xxxoooo Janet

You make us proud to know you, and read your work.

Nighty, Night, dear sweet Kate, you have left me with something to enchance my whisky induced stupor lol. A superb offering dear lady, and one that shall live on in the hallowed halls of Glenfiddich induced beauty...oh! and sleep, lol. 'You lay me like a lover,' is just sublime...you know it makes sense? LOL! Excellent Kate, A very Happy New Year to You and Your kin.

This is so deep and profound, full of hidden meanings and messages Kate !
It symbolically reminds me of a faithful son, taking it upon himself to bear the burdens of his mother !
Your recent work is displaying such expressive and symbolic overtones and overtures
I can visualaize an accompanying picture here symbolising the link between sleep and renewal !
Love
Peter
