MOVING HOUSE

Life for sale.

In the garden of dreams,
I survey from the gate
an attractive façade,
strong architectural features
and illuminated leaded lights.

Welcome bids me over the threshold;
open-armed hallways
take me deep into
warmth of a burning hearth,
press me to their
broad-chested stairs.

I want to climb up,
run all the baths,
leave my clothes trailing
from room to room,
feeling the freedom
of deep-pile wool carpet
close-fitted against
every inch of my skin.

Sky is obliterated
by nakedness of windows,
by the shoulders of furniture
yet to be explored.

I know this is home.
I don’t want to leave.
If this life’s for sale,
I’ll take it.

Reading MOVING HOUSE, I found myself thinking, not the thing (as in the house described) but the soul of the thing blesses us with hope and joy. And then at the poem's end: not the poem, but the soul of the poet shining through these golden lines, blesses us with hope and joy. Thank you.

Sometimes we are forced to live a life just short of what we had planned and hoped for. Sometimes we find when the kids are grown and we are older the once too small home has suddnely grew into an echo chamber. Sometimes careers or lifes necessities force us to move to a part of the world unfamiliar at first to us. but always the love of family, friends and relatives and all the magic memories of the past home tag along to reunite with those of the new. Hope you find this is so sweet Kate.
Hugs for stressful times,
Felix

To have found it. To have been admitted. To have explored. To have been cuddled in the arms of complete satisfcction. To become a part of the beauty and solace that keeps us alive and determined.
You have reached out and gathered a new world into yours... but all of it, without clothes? My, my, my dear. That sublime, huh?
Your words weave a fabric of near fantasy. - Bill

Kate I love how you've used personification so effectively in this poem. You are still the queen of expression and I love reading your work. As always it inspires me.
Hope you're doing well on the health front. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Sounds like quite a place, Kate, and now all you need to make it complete is a kitty cat in the bedroom chair and a dog by the hearth!!

How sweet it is, Kate.
I love this poem; it is an uplifting breath of fresh air that made me feel as though you were dancing on moonbeams, scarves swirling in the air.

This is quite how I feel living in my new home, and it is unencumbered, free of mortgage and rich with 11 acres of nature that borders another 1000 acres on my fenceline so wild, deer that I water in my 100 gallon horse tank, of course my five white wolves (two have died) had seven, raccoons, rabbits, badgers, OH and lotsa coyotes. I have a whole bleached out coyote skeleton at my prayer altar I have designed out of rocks and a pentagram/pentacle star fashioned from rocks to honor my religion of Wicca, and THE BIRDS...many varieties...Hea, we're talking about my small country hometown here where I was raised...I am home, where even the little white chapel on the cemetery grounds is kept unlocked and opened 24/7 because we live in a pristine life here, no taggers, grafitti, or badboys! I'll take it! Sounds like you're home, Kate, Bless it, where even the teakettle sings from happiness! Take care of you. I don't dress my windows either. I like free vision.

This is a wonderful look into starting over. You paint a vivid picture, capturing the essence of how appealing it can be to find a "clean slate," and to actually have the opportunity to begin to fill it as you see fit. Lovely!
