Just startin to spill... funny how classic metre and rhyming verse kick in at such times... Poetic bio-rhythms take over perhaps - like breathing - engaging the emotions rather than the mind... Hoping to be back with you tomorrow, People xx It will be Mothers' Day here in UK... what a choker!! K xx
UNVEILED
You're the keeper of the flame,
the bearer of my torch;
the summer breeze, the cooling rain,
the dew when parched winds scorch.
The healing balm to soothe my pain,
the salt to cleanse my wound;
the courage given to face my day,
strong arms that keep me cocooned.
My breath, my song, my idle thought
that keep my fears at bay.
Yours the everlasting Word
when others have had their say.
Yours the stirring waking kiss
that sets my hopes alight.
You the comfort from sorrow spawned,
my strength to face the fight.
Earth, moon, stars and shifting skies
can never know my rest;
Your love it holds me as a vice -
I am forever blessed.
This is great, Kate! I haven't been able to write much, and I've certainly not been able to do rhyming metered for a very long time. I used to think if it didn't rhyme with rhythm, it wasn't a poem. But as I aged, I discovered the many ways of expressing. But I still like the metered rhymed the best. You do it well..... thank you for sharing....
Kate
When we " lose " ourselves in our work and labours, then we can march forward with confidence, knowing that's the very thing that our Loved Ones would prompt us to do !

Interesting observation you make about rhyme, Kate. I seem to kick into rhyme as well when overwhelmed positively or negatively sometimes as I guess can be seen by my most current poem. Beautiful wriitng here. As you know, you have my prayers and condolences. ~~Nordette
When children are stressed or in pain they will often rock themselves back and forth, as though the rocking motion will release them. For me, it is being on the water, in a boat or even laying on a raft, that will soothe me through my most difficult times. I believe that meter and rhyme flow from the child within us as I often feel that giddy littl girl in me, when I write with both. Whatever it is, I hope it helps you with your release and that soon you will be on the healing path without the dark cloud of responsibility weighing you down and interrupting your time that should be spent working through your grief. God Bless you, Kate. You are fortunate to have someone you can depend on who can help you in these most difficult of times.
Take care,
Sherry
I agree with both Linda and Anita...but then it is a style I'm most content with;-)...A beautiful poem Kate, Creator is truly one that cocoons better than anyone...
Stirring affirmation of faith, Kate. Beautiful! The meter and rhyme kicking in may just be the parameters needed in the chaos around you.
Like having "strong arms that coccoon" you. We love you and are keeping you in prayer...
This is very beautiful.........and you know, I have a thought about the meter thing coming back to you, especially at this time, I think its like a rocking chair.....its a comfort....like a heart beat.....the steadiness and consistancy, might be sort of a comfort at this time, even if its robotic.......it fits?
yes......this poem is beautiful, written by a beautiful heart.....all the best kate........pax Anita
