... An ancient repost from September 2004.

THE WRITER AND HIS ENVIRONMENT

1. ENVIRONMENT

Atmospheric Pressure:

Surrounded by language,
my lungs inhale gaseous thought
and breath out words,
spoken and unsaid.

Seeping through pores in my skin
liquid idea perspires,
quickening my pulse to an exhilarated race
as read cells energise my blood.

Incessant invasive and pervasive tide,
droplets of consciousness fall
on the fine, sandy soil of my being;
they re-emerge charged as linguistic rivulets
searching homewards for the sea.

2. WRITER

I am a Writer:

Confused or enlightened,
my eyes do not hear too well;
my ears do not always see right;
my mind speaks only half-truth
and my lips do not think straight.

Concrete words sometimes throw a curved ball:
I hear the inaudible sound of breaking glass -
a pane in someone's greenhouse soul.

Petalled thoughts at other times produce feathered flowers,
a ribbon of rainbow silk handkerchiefs
or an Alice White Rabbit
as if by magic from a heart's top hat.

3. RESULT

Our collective consciousness connects,
amasses, dissipates;
it ebbs and flows,
comes and goes.

But we give and receive like rings
without beginning or end,
and in our marriage bed
I do not know which one of us is which,
where one stops or the other begins:
aware only of being umbilically attached
and wholly conjoined.

We are essentially One
and passionately in love
with Language:

Knock me down with a feather, much thought and work has gone into this, and it's result is briliance.
Much is kinda intangible, yet seen in the minds eye, as clear as day.
Plethora of unique and interesting metaphors... Klever Kate, HUH..

To the writer, this fully opens the channel and gives us everything within which to create the words. I read concentrated mind action here, and the nine steps to writers' prosperity: Law of Self-awareness, Law of Wanting, Law of Planning, Law of Releasing, Law of Compensation, Law of Attraction, Law of Visualization, Law of Affirmation, and Law of Loving, your final stanza Kate! The truly successful writers have found and used portions of this path to prosperity. We are now ready to use the mind for its highest potential as a channel of connection with the source of prosperity, our creative imagination.

Why in the world did you keep this masterful write from us for so long, Kate?? This is exceptional writing and you disect and then make cohesive all of the components that make up our love affair with language. Born in a moment of clarity, this poem is pure excellence.
Take care,
Sherry

Only a poetic mind can come up with this...lol!!

Sweet Kate this one is so true and such a realistic thought progression that I thought you were actually writing about me and my world. We are indeed a truly odd lot and insanity, depression, religious zealotry, insomia are but a few of our quirks and often the drink or drugs as well. Still, at the risk of sounding vain...where would the world be without us. Sweet dreams and a great weekend to you Kate.
