Turning out my 16-yr old's pockets prior to laundering this morning, together with a manky old golf glove I found these lines on a scrap of paper... suspect there is a melody that goes with it, but couldn't hum it! Think cross between Ryan Adams and Jack Johnson and I'm sure you'd be hitting the mark. Anyways, I am sure George would be most pleased to receive your comments... I can think of worse things to find in your son's pockets??!!! :)) K xx

WASH DAY BLUES (Mum's title! :))

Normality stalls,
colours fade away

Leaving nothing but
my dreams of black and white (and grey. - Ed)

You dream what
you want to feel

But nothing could ever
make it real

A stark and penetrating piece of writing that captures well the sense of haunted need and estrangement that can come with being the wise adolescent son of a wise and gifted poet mother in this totally off-kilter world:-) Lucky Mum to discover her son walks around with gold etched upon paper crumpled in his pocket.

Very touching and a bit sad, yet beautiful. Dreams, however, can be a wonderful escape and sometimes they even come true...

Ah! the lad has talent...must be in the genes (pun of the week...jeans lol). This is good stuff, certainly creativty runs rife in the Burnside household, long may it do so too. I should post some of my students work they did for me, it's really rather good (need to dig it out) It's about time our youth got creative instead of leaving it to us middle-aged fuddy-duddies lol;). I will be popping down sometime this year for that pint of Tetley's, prefer John smiths though lol. (better still Glenfiddich). Oh! you wouldn't want to know what you'd find in my pockets LOl, Earwigs in matchboxes and various collections of fluff etc.

Blessings

Paul;-)

How rewarding for you. And, would he be encouraged if you discussed the scrap-write with him? Probably, not, but I bellieve you would like to do so. Exceptional theme and word selection for a Youth. As your other fans are saying, "Just like his Mum... wouldn't you know!

You are right, Kate, you certainly could find much worse things in his pockets. It is nice to see that you have passed your talents down to another generation, who knows, perhaps a collaboration or two will get his creative juices flowing. Great picture!!
Take care,
Sherry

Sweet!! These are the spirit of an album for memories. I love this. I have so many little cards and small details that, to me, are priceless...just like this poem from your son's pocket. He has a poet's Muse!

Good one, but the ending was depressive, but then most 16 year-olds are.

Wonderful picture!

As a guitar player and singer/songwriter these lines set the perfect tone for a ballad whether it be a love song of unrequited love or a young man's reflection on the world at present and the world to come. Where age is a time for reflextion and day dreams of the past youth is a time for hope and dreams of the present and future. I think this work shows a lot of talent and potential.
