“We reach the real by overcoming the seduction of images.”
Charles Simic, “A Letter”
I cannot cease from fantasy:
the serried jaws of beasts upon the wing;
the flying eyes that kiss with sharpened claws;
bloodied anger’s shout releasing heart to sing;
open heaven’s prison minus doors.
Trying hard to break with my escape
I examine concrete fact of my domain:
distracted by abstract pain in solid shape
reality’s met in violent dreaming again.
I, and I'm sure many other artistic souls, identify with this exceptional poem, Kate. Doggone it's good! Wish I had your gift of extrapolation and extemporaneous speech at the moment because I should say more. ~~Nordette
Cute! I cycle every day so there's no chance of any bird's nest on my bike. Powerful imagery, Kate. Thank you for sharing your gift. Love and peace to you,

Oh, boy, the meanderings of the mine when we chance to think in dreamscape. The bloody images you threw at us were VIVID and VIVIDER and when the abstract meets something solid, kaleidoscope dreams ensue.
Sweet Kate, I found this super intense and almost demon and dungeon like in temperment, nightmare or scary story it's images focus the readers attention to look no matter the desire to turn away and hope they are not facing the boogey man of life.Well done Kate.
The depths of the human imagination have only been superficially scratched, Kate. I wonder how it would be to spend extended periods of time is an under-water deprivation tank thinking only wild and twisted thoughts. Perhaps the only stimulation we might have is our own imaginings being splashed upon a huge screen in front of our eyes bringing another layer of reality to them. How long would it take for our vision to turn all beauty into grotesque and to turn the human spirit into nothing more than a toxic cauldron of evil thinking? I appreciate the slap in the face of hardened reality that brings me back into the here and now and stops the visions before they escalate into something dark and deceptive...a rather "Be Here Now" mode that drives me to smell the roses and marvel at the nasturtiums. An excellent mind-bending poem, Kate, I love it!!
Take care,
Sherry

I like Michelle's interpretation of this brilliant composition....
There is an intense paradox here between the lines, and a merging of fact and fiction as a form of release...

This feels like a twist of reality and fantasy, the balance of the necessity and the beauty, the negative and the banality, of these two worlds. Excellent.
On yer bike! (aww), Yes I see it all now, I'm getting Ruydyard Kipling...'Tooth and claw' and all that. Superb imagery in this little gem Mizz Moneypenny, that's got to be worth a least a box a Walnut Whips and a bag of bon bons.
wow
Imagine if all these images were actual

Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e
