Beneath the bed, a box of sweat – each drop crystalline, edged and faced by swirling attrition, remorseless. It slinks from side-to-side, surfs tilting timbers far below deck.
Amid creaking and clinker, she heaves this box nightly onto her sheets, slides back ancient fastenings and lifts the lid to gaze – face full-moon lit by treasured reflection. She plunders the contents, dragging her hands through heavy beads, netting this catch of heat waves. She applies droplets from jewelled romance to her ears then circles her neck with sugared mists from throat-tightening fantasies. She is confection-dressed: airy, layered, anxious thoughts are poised like vibrating bee-wings, wax-melting with anticipation. Her gown falls like moistened lips in damply softened folds, ready for Captain’s Table.
Is this Dawn Treader, Titanic or fevers from the Ship of Fools and just a box of rain?
Again a stunning example of your inspired originality and creativity. When I read your work, I feel as though I am dipping into a delectable feast of imagery, savouring mouthful by mouthful until I come to the end whereupon I feel slightly regretful that it is over. The joy is in knowing that I can read these words over again and enjoy them just as much in the second or even third helping. Superb!

WOW. I can vaguely recall the affect of a cup of dried mushroom tea after three decades. Those curious ones that take you to places where Gracie would go. This has the same surreal, out-of-body into
mind yet sharply defined edge. All the adjectives have been pronounced. Collect all these prose peices, will you, and publish them in a book?
Hopefully it wasn't the chamber pot lol, Sorry!! Mizz Moneypenny shouldn't be so flippant in the face of such outstanding and elegant prose. You have this to a fine art dearest Kate...somewhat awed, your talent is boundless, genuflecting now! Need another chockie, can I have the one with the Honey filling again please?
Kate, You take my breath away. There is no comment that could possibly compare to the tallent you must have in your little finger let alone your brilliant and creative mind. I can see her now...her face as it opens the treasured chest of memories and baubles of the past hoping they will once again alert even a Captain's eye. Gosh Kate, this one is a film in itself! Honored again to read your words.

Yeah Wow is the word and I'll need to
reread this to ponder a bit. ;) A really

Oh...Ah...Wow!!! What pictures you drew for us with this genius
scribing. What a mind you have, girl!!!
I'm sorry I don't get to the Den often enough to read and comment
on fine work like this...and I miss you, much too much, because of my being without a home internet.
Hopefully, in September, they will connect it again. In the meantime, I use the public library when I get to town once or twice a week.
This is bloody brilliant writing; I felt like I was on my cruise again! Stunning imagery and provocative emotion leaves me breathless--thank you. Saving this one, you bet!!
Kate, this made my brain swell in admiration and immediately, somehow, go figure, transported me aboard an ancient wooden sailing vessel. Maybe Viking in nature!
It must have been "Amid creaking and clinker"
Woven into your lines, like waves crashing over the figurehead, and the salt pungent brisk wind in ones face, lie those mysteries in words that we all strive to attain as you have here.
The beautiful imagery in these lines is an undeniable force that bombards the senses like imagination cresting on waves and seagulls swirling around the mizzen mast!
Standing on this mountain in So Cal, I raise my glass to you Poet! You have pushed the envelope like wind carressing leaves!
good God almighty. the girl is the queen bee of poetry. seriously, Kate, you do SO well at prose poems. this one, in particular, is jam packed with images and swirling meaning. heck, you even got the bee stuff in there again. great work. where do we buy your book? Dawn
You hit a new high Kate the Great! This is beyond gourmet!
Can't think of a superlative!;-)

Romance and passion at its very best..
Reminded me of that famous scene in Gone with the Wind, and Scarlett O'Hara filled with regrets and remorse..
