IRREPRESSIBLE PROGENY

They press their soft blades
through moist pores of my skin,

spool rivers of life through
the skeins of my veins;

the red in my corpuscles,
the blue in my breath,
they’re the punching-fist muscle
in the cage of my chest.

Like yeast they rise,
like wheat they swell;
like flames they leap,

spreading the heat
of their latent combustion.

And I am tight-packed
with their bubbles of light,
heavy with knowledge
of their eager expectation.

Pregnant with thought, they press
their eyes, as if to a spyglass,
hard against the back of my mind:

Patiently they wait, my dreams –
continually watching for
the right time to be born.

Irrepressible is right. Wonderful scenario of the birth of dreams. I love how they affect all parts of the body. Beautiful and gritty in its conception. Great work.

The inspired thoughts do seem to come from without and through us so very often, don't they, Kate? I feel like there is a voyer of my life and dreams who presses forth through my keyboard and onto the page. Not a writer myself, I am convenced that I am but a vehicle of a universal thought that is finding whatever avenue it can to be released, in much the same way as a chick picks it way out of its eggshell to be born into and become a part of a world of strange realities. I love the visuals you have created in this gem, particularly the spyglass part, which ripped through my imagination and flashed a full panoramic and Technicolor presentation onto my mental movie screen. Excellent work, Kate.
Take care,
Sherry

Excellent write Kate. you definetly made me feel when I read the lines:They press their soft blades
through moist pores of my skin,

spool rivers of life through
the skeins of my veins;

the red in my corpuscles,
the blue in my breath,
they’re the punching-fist muscle
in the cage of my chest.

I must say you express talent like the lights that blare from light houses. Excellent Job and will definetly read more. Take care my dear friend/ Charles D. O'Connor III

Blimey never quite heard dreams described like this before, 3rd stanza sounds like nightmare on elm street. Watch out for freddy..

You express well the thoughts from dreams and though many a poets mind has escaped into the state of dreams to bring forth the displays, yours brings the dreams forward from within the very interior of the flow of the lines...very nice...

Irresistible title. Endows the spirit of things that yet may be with the immediacy and vitality of life in the here and now. Like dreams themselves, these lines speak with the eloquent light of a formidable power and agreeable harmony. A good poem to befriend and visit.

gestating dreams multiply in the womb of our spirit's inner thoughts and hunger to be nursed even before they even conceived ... when they know they will be nurtured in an inspired envirorment they will emerge by the will of their own design ... keep on feeding, feeding them poetry ...

Damn Dreams! No matter how much I try, they are incorrigible brats...fleeting and fleeing at will, and never use the voice of right person during the play... nor the locale of life's comfort zones. I commend you highly for using better language than do I. But, we're talking about the same piss ants - Damn dreams!
You surely do write it good, though, Sweetie. - Bill

Oh Sweet Kate you always keep us clinging to each word and line until the very end with such vividness and clarity of insight. I felt like I was on a tour of your body as you presented this stunning piece for our approval which is willingly given. Big hugs for this one and hope I get to sneak into one of your dreams sometime.

Dream offspring have no gestation period in which to conform, unrestrained, they're born when they're born, Kate, little baby reverie offshoots pampered until they arrive...still though, craving pickles and morning sickness until the poetry craving is satisfied...listen to some Everly Brothers, All I Have To Do Is Dream, then chase that dream with some fine Merlot and throw the cork to Birddog, and that oughta Wake Up Little Susie...Bye, Bye Love...

Ah, dreams, I wondered who "they" were in the first line. And occassionally they are worth living for. Excellent exposition of how our subconscious works. Victor
