JUST… THERE

So I spend my days crossing
and re-crossing lines,

staking out boundaries,
moving into space,

testing fences,
inspecting ditches
and taking in the general scene
from each parameter’s hilltop.

Preoccupying my mind with work,
recreating my soul with play.

But, all the while,
looking for that window,

the trompe de l’oeil announcing:
“THIS is what it means
to be alive”

that is nowhere in particular but
which appears as if from somewhere,

and especially in that lonely place
with damp and mouldering walls.

Through that eye’s glimpse sears the shaft,
the beam that sets me free:

in the street,
on the beach,
or right in the middle of the carpet:
suddenly it’s there –

that fire of light
and peace and burn;

the flame of love which illuminates
as surely as it consumes.

Oh, "as SURELY as it consumes!" YOU never cease to amaze me with your subtle wafts of allusion embedded deeply within the confines of a seemingly simple poem - and THAT is what poetry and writing are all about! Kate, I can always 'drink' your words. Happy Easter. -- Jeff

Life ebbs and flows and so much seems to just be there. Perhaps that is our bottom line (not a body jab, Kate)from which all else forms its value. Women are multi-taskers which makes the doledrum activities easier to bear since we are onto the next without giving much thought to the auto-pilot activities that we must accomplish. Taking out the garbage, we glance upon the perfect face of a panzy and realize that miracles and beauty grace our lives. Wonderful writing, Kate!
Take care,
Sherry

I agree with the others! this reminded me of when I had just finished vacuuming and was going to take a break.as I walked to the
chair I saw a spot on the carpet and bent to pick it up it was a sunbeam;-)Your poem gave light to what is just there, but not always easy to define. Superb poem Kate!

Have a Blessed and Happy Easter!

Soul and heart in play in unison in this write that opens the readers minds to what the author sees in her world. Sweet Kate I can see the confusion and yet a longing for love as burning as he ring of fire Johnie Cash once sang about. Beautiful work Sweet Kate.

Introspection and curiosity creating distinctive unanimity within desires parameters. The heart of a seeker permeates these lines.

the trompe de l’oeil announcing:
“THIS is what it means
to be alive”

this line made me itch!

Certainly this ever-evolving illusion of three-dimensionality could trick the eye and senses into believing that windows are actually portals to progress through. Perhaps windows are a deception. A room with a view comes to mind; a whitewashed cubicle on the outside and doorless on the inside. The occupant trapped in a self-made utopian illusion.

Perhaps an ode to love accompanied with a balalaika, performed with the crashing waves of possibility, would render momentary awareness to the melding of spiritual and corporeal expressions.

Wouldn't it be funny KB if human love and the expressions of such were nothing more than just programmable software.

Light and Wisdom ...

A few levels to this poem, I'm always amazed at how many great, intelligent and thought provoking brains there are on this site, from diffo paradigms across the western world in the main...
