MUSING ON “SO SOFTLY”
A foghorn dawn infuses my soul –
steady breath of unknown music
rounding the cape, shaping
my low cliffs of consciousness.
Tongues of washing tides
shush the wet-faced sands,
lick away the flotsam notes
and float them bobbing on the
unplumbed depths, in sway beneath
an unblinking sun.
Netted in balanced counterpoint
of oceans’ cross-hatched currents,
staves are stilled to sleep.
Cirrus gestures the light to settle,
swallow its reveille heat.
