THE SEARCH

On its energy you rise breathless,
scaling the elliptical lighthouse stairs
to embrace illumination

At your limits of sand and sea,
it draws you to touch the swirl
of embedded ammonite,
that connects you with your past

Curled heavy on your bed,
you desire to stroke its velvet cat-fur
for comfort during the solitude
of sleep…

Teasing with mental fingers
tight-packed walnut folds of brain,
tracing its core quiescence;

peeling back heart’s budded petals
to enquire of its impulse;

examining your fingertip’s whorl
in search of identity’s secret:

This the quest of spooled reflection,
cloaked mirror’s ravelled “other”
that reveals yourself to you

The unconscious journey outside in,
concentric paths diminishing

in pursuit of the twin.

Genius use of prose my cherished friend! I love the subject of our symbolic yet personal search for truth....the hunger to know who we are and precisely why we are here in Gods master plan......As always, an excellent lyrical journey you have shared with us to enjoy. His peace to you and yours Kate.

Bill :-)

Oh Kate each verse of this is a story and a poem onto itself..so much sharp imagery used here I reread twice savoring each picture as you offered them up like sweet candy to be savored for their richness. Wonderful stuff and our favorite sea thread thrown in as well.

I like the symbols, the analogy and the seeming paradox (which isn't). I also liked the way you tied it up, so neatly. This is like feasting on ten course meal in a seven star restaurent. Great job!

The unconscious journey outside in,

Fascinating, Kate. Perhaps you were a Lighthouse Keeper's Wife, in one of those prior lives of yours.

a brilliant introspective analysis probing into the folds of consciousness as it ascends to the beacon to the "other," a mirror reflection of who we are to become ...

I was writing on this very premise recently, but you did it
to perfection! I think there are a plethora of ways to view
ourselves and all of them have merit, Splendid poem Kate!

Illumination..Good ad for Paul Wellers CD..
That apart. LOL at Nicky, you ain't got a twin of any kind, this is a warming pleasing poem to the senses, I too love the opening of your first stanza..

How does a farmers daughter rise out of the hay shed, and write with such unique brilliance, your potery will out live your mortal body for eons..

This is glorious!! I love the opening stanza,

"On its energy you rise breathless
scaling the elliptical lighthouse of stairs
to embrace illumination ..."

Did me lightning pic inspire this? LOL This is a StormSpinner beginning and continues in inimitable Kate passion and FIRE! I wish I had written this, yes. BRAVA!!
