Happy May Days, People...!! :)) Have been working all night on a longer narrative piece called Second Coming At The Seafood Restaurant... but it hasn't happened yet, so I got bored and turned to this... LOL K xx

PATIENCE

It is the alchemy that works by
stroking the cat,
biting the lip,
knit-one-pearl-one
and by protesting of its virtue;

the magic that releases through
the beat of thrumming fingers
and steady drum of tapping toes.

The farmer, artist and diligent lawyer
all metabolise its power, harvesting
lush fruit from skilful fingers and
fine food from hungry minds.

Slowly it manifests, separating
the haves from the have-nots,
its influence evidenced by the state
of our barns: full or empty;
wealth of our heart: rich or poor;
and by the willingness or tardy
reticence of our own peculiar thoughts.

The investment that pays dividends
or the magic moment unrealised and lost,
its absence swallows what might have been
in mounting waves of leisurely regret.

What do they sell at the sea food restaurant?
Most tranquil, indeed it's the barns in the spiro world that need to be full..

What might have been indeed, potting shed 7:30 sharp...Tiger..

“Saints give me patience!” – Here’s the translation of a very Portuguese petition, which - no doubt just so I’d stop nagging them… - those sweet, long-suffering saints seem to have granted by providing me with a more than lavish proportion – enough, actually, to share with some who weren’t blessed with any, LOL! It hasn’t always been like this, of course, but the seeds of my plea have been well watered, nurtured and tended throughout the seasons, and they have sprouted, grown, and produced many a plentiful harvest to feed my hungry days and store for times of scarceness – like those when my laptop keeps “freezing” on me, which seems to have been the case during the last couple of days, arrrrgh!!! Anyway, it takes a heck of a while for anything or anyone to actually make me lose my seemingly infinite patience… but when that happens, boy… does it show – there’s no explosion, but something more like an implosion and this benevolent, sparkling creature just turns into… a black-hole, LOL! All this to say, my dearest Kate, that a poem about “Patience” would always get my full and undivided attention… and that this particular one, where “Patience” is rendered in the most delicious, unique, mind-tickling, “oh-wow-blimey-it-don’t-get-any-better-than-this” way, leaves me with a sense of blessed fulfillment, which I now express in a totally quenched "AAAAHHHHHH!!!" - “…metabolise its power, harvesting lush fruit from skilful fingers and fine food from hungry minds.” – BINGO!!! And BRAVO- and all the blessings from all the saints, with a million {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} and lots and lots of love!

Alexandra* (now patiently waiting, hungry again, for that "Second coming at the Seafood Restaurant, LOL!)

Kate once again your pen brings the reader to a profound view of Patience. One Virtue i strive but fail at and keep trying for it is a must to accomplish. Mine is waiting for trains i avoid them like a plague. "The investment that pays dividends
or the magic moment unrealised and lost,
its absence swallows what might have been
in mounting waves of leisurely regret.

" Outstanding this summed it beautiful... Blessings & Hugs, Josie xx

Patience is a virtue to which I continually strive and seem to lose sight of as I am nearing the completion of a project, thought or conversation. My ruling planet is mercury and like quicksilver itself, I must be in motion to feel alive. I have become fairly good at doing things well, quickly, though I rather imagine that I drive those around me nuts...always beating them to the finish line, even when I try so hard not to. My thoughts come so quickly that often I am onto the next topic while still speaking about the last. I think my mom should have named me Rick O'Shay!! Patience...it will be the death of me. LOL!! Love this write, Kate. Good luck on "The Second Coming At The Seafood Restaurant"...I am intrigued by the title.
Take care,
Sherry

An interesting, lighthearted read until I reached the profound insight on patience of "...its absence swallows what might have been in mounting waves of leisurely regret."

I was reminded of the student who couldn't come up with an A grade because he/she lacked the patience to review, again, and reminded of the young lover who failed to win the heart of the object of his affection because lack of patience wouldn't allow him to make the necessary investment, all spelled out by the license plate holder praying, "Lord, give me patience. Right now!"

And you're so right in pointing out the magic of patience. It's much like the old saying in sports: "The harder I work, the luckier I get."

I endorse the wisdom below of La Belle, Felix, George and Jude.
An interesting, provocative write, Kate. (And I want you to know that I had the patience to read it twice before I wrote a word.)

Patience and time...two great things that we all need more of and you captured that so well in this write but more...you also captured the magic that time is personal and how we use it is also personal...we writers may spend days finding just the right phrase ore word and an accountant would look at that as waste... but we would also look at him cruching numbers to save a few dollars as a waste to us. You really nailed this one Sweet Kate now if I can just find the time to write a poem as good as this...
