A rewrite of one of my earliest poems. K xx

Poem Artwork

BREATHING UNDER WATER

I have come to Land's End of myself;

have traced from John o' Groats
round a convolute and rugged coastline,
idling through pastoral landscapes
and traversing bleak and rocky outcrops.

Still the understanding of my
own unknown eludes me.

Leaving these shores, I cast myself over
The White Cliffs Of Dover,
exchanging safety of high ground
for the challenge of uncharted seas.

Now I’m breathing underwater
with lungs I never knew I had,

the map and compass
of my age-old territory
lost in the discovery
of a Brave New World

Oh I love this one Kate....from the easy to touch crags to the new world and power of breathing under water..the quest for the new and unknown. In the process of moving and rediscovering...this encourages me.
Love,
Taylor

'I have come to the Lands End of Myself'- a very memorable line Kate. The Sea - ahhhhh - the underwater gallery of incredible finds, lost treasures, the wonder of discovery, and braving the fear of the unknown - easy to associate the ocean with rebirth, and if it wasn't for Jaws movies as a child, i'd feel a bit easier out there! I think you will enjoy your discoveries, your poem has clarity, and an ease and acceptance about it - i'm sure the dolphins will be looking out for you all the way through to your Brave New World :o) Nicky xxx

Always knew you're a mermaid. Hows ole Neptune these days.
No-matter where we go, on-one can escape from themself.
I guess the brave knew world is within, changing that which is within,
and daring to be the person one is meant to be. A rose in full bloom in harmony with nature rather than a flabby mind within prison walls... Swim iccle mermaid swim..

Wow Kate sounds like you've traded your lungs for gills. But the undersea is most stunningly beautiful and a whole new world, fer sure, (metaphorically speaking of course)

Well if you are breathing under water as this beautifully imaged poem presents then dear sweet Kate just keep going straight and swing a little south when you hit Newfoundland and another three days walk will put you on my doorstep in Nova Scotia. Great write and I know the frustration of those long rugged walks.

The perfection in your lines, even the "o" is beautiful;to a wonderful unknown born of searching for your rebirth in the triangles Sargasso Seas.

I've flown the coast with my own rebirth and I'll do it over and over again. For me, this poem gave my experience a clear meaning. I'm with you on this flight of self. It's a fearless woman who has the courage to seek the new world and think outside of the box.
Brava!

A journey forthcoming - kind of a Pin the Tail on the Donkey - blindfolded and pin the eel tail on the map. Who knows what you'll pull up, some old-sunken treasure, amphorae of wine still drinkable, a scale off of Aphrodite's tail, Johnny Depp's golden earring or better yet, his gilded cod piece...phoenician papyrus with lover's secrets Kama SEATRA, a votive statue of Neptune...sounds like an acquatic rebirth of some kind...cargo of bronzed ingots to ya, Kate...grab the map and off to colonizing new shores in untamed waters...it's an age thing...feeling it myself - the seasonal tides have arrived!

Love & Womanly Tide,
Sage

Looks like you were out there again and the new realization ever greater--I sort of wish I could've gone over the cliff with you--I always feel "the understanding of my unknown eludes me" almost everyday that I work alone at "my stuff" (of life). Great thoughts--thanks

There are some seasons we go through that are especially difficult, and at times seem interminable. To finally get through them, and realize that we are improved, or different, and still desirous of pressing forward, is always a blessing. I love introspection like this. I hope you enjoy, fully, your brave new world KB.
Blessings ...
