Wishing you all a full measure of the cup of Easter blessings, people; it's comfort and resurrection joys. May peace be yours. Kate xx
RAIN
It was nothing at first but an
advancing light precipitation:
an inkling, a trifle, a hint
of mere suggestion.
Unseen and unknown, together
we fixed our gaze out to sea and
saw the same nothing-but-something
gathering on a shared horizon.
Never speaking or exchanging
borrowed sight, we both knew;
grew fat on all its metaphors
and starved on its allusions,
its slow approach saturating
our skies, its unheard thunder
cradling our insides and making
our hollows tremble.
Its breeze lifts my hair and
strokes my skin with nearness:
all we can do now is wait
for this promise of rain.
expectation brings one closer to the precipitation of the advancing moment ... we can wait for it to arrive or do a rain dance and bring it onto ourselves ;)
I saw three meanings in this... and loved each one!
In reading and rereading the word that hit me the strongest each time was the word "light". I felt this poem, in its dualities really had more to do with light and the allegories associated than with rain...
but then again, that is just my take on it. :~)
This was almost like standing there with you. You sure do know how to lure the reader into your writings. A very amiable quality my friend. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.

In this, I can see you and doggie, down at the waters edge, watching that marvelous sight of storm clouds gathering. But Kate being Kate, You'll have wandered off in to la la land, being pelted by the stair-rods and think, oh yeah it's raining, how long has that downpour been happening... lol. I'd hazard a guess you wrote this in your mind just before the incoming storms of late... First rate Kumulus Kate......
...how wonderful to know the moment...instant...felt...and then the coming...distanced...yet close...seen...anticipating. Your words Kate...have given me all of this...in winded gray...and a salty floral spray.
my wishes of Easter are for you also Kate...

Wow, I could smell the rain and the sea, feel the breeze and the light fall of raindrops kissing my skin, lovely writing and a Blessed EAster to you and yours- Michelle xxxx
You have a brilliant way of bringing in a lot of meaning out of something so vital, important but so ordinary most people miss it! That's what real poets do best - speaking of "the sweet earth & the summer rain" - we had a few doses here in Fla - we're rolling fast to summmer now!

Aw Kate, only you could bring this delightful play on the life-giving rain . . . You never fail to either bring a smile to my face or give me reasons for some deep pondering . . .
Sweet Kate as always when you pick your subject you pick one that you can wrap your heart, mind and soul around and this is no exception. I could almost feel the first droplets of rain as it washed down on me as we stood hight on a cliff top looking out to sea.

Of all the Manna From Heaven, rain is the first to my mind. Nothing happens without the rain. Thank you for giving my favorite part of nature such tender treatment. This is a quiet and sneaky bit of great writing, and you show mastery of the pen in doing it. Thanks. - Bill
