My thoughts have been with you as you have reflected deeply and in many different ways on Memorial Day. My thanks for your tireless expressions of lament and empathy which have so touched my heart. Personally, I struggle to get my head round the extent of the pain and courage, the nobility and grace of all those who don a uniform in the name of their country and on behalf of the people they seek to serve. May God be with them and with all those they leave behind.
... Now this is a funny thing: an exercise piece in which a spontaneous poetic rendering had to be "written verbatim, as heard". In this case, my subject was Chinese - perhaps you can hear something of that in the voice of this prose?
RUN, BUTTERFLY, RUN
I wandered out onto the green grass, the green-green grass, and saw a yellow butterfly among the beautiful rainbow flowers. It looked so light, so free, and the flowers seemed to enjoy the butterfly’s sweet touch, like a kiss.
But the yellow butterfly might be afraid of something, like a bee – a bee with its buzz, bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. That buzz, like sparky things flying out. The butterfly might want to avoid the sparky things that frighten it. It might want to find another direction and run, run away.
The rainbow flowers understand that the butterfly might be afraid, afraid of the spark. They want to make it understand, to make it know that they don’t want to hurt the butterfly. That they mean it no harm. That they want to be friends.
They feel from the butterfly’s kiss that really, it is afraid of the sparky things within its own self. There is something in the butterfly that is electric; something fiery that burns.
Run, butterfly, run. The flowers want you to go now. Run from the fire and find peace. The rainbows wish it.
fortunately, both the bees and butterflies have a symbiotic relationship with flowers crossing each other's paths in a moment of unconscious flurry, is part of the same landscape ... great imagery and metaphor ...
I've never seen a butterfly run, but your imaginative poetic words conjure up a vision of a fleet-of-foot yellow butterfly at the garden's edge! I totally enjoy your final line!

Yes! Subtle threads of silk from the Orient enliven the shimmering tapestry you have woven with words that light and lift, lift and light. Butterfly and bee are perfect metaphors, the fight-or-fly reaction very appropo. Fly, girl, fly!! 'Pea' <3
I feel such intensity to see these butterflies run for freedom, as your heart articulated passionately of our men and women fighting for OUR Freedom!
Love your beauty in imagery and expressions Sweet Kate, and it's been awhile I've been here I KNOW, but I could never forget your writing heart and soul!

...such wonder in words Kate...as one takes in all colors in your soft expression...regard for others and all things...knowing all shades are drawn in light...safely witin the arch of prism thoughts. "something fiery that burns"...perhaps remembrance...something you have given us...hope, love, and faith to fly.

Very beautiful writing sweet Kate..stay safe and well...Hugsss
Captivating as all your work is to the searching heart of a poet. This is special and has so many real life comparisons. Your talent has blossomed since day one and now you are spreading out your own wings like the butterfly and the result is majestic...so proud of you my sweet Kate.

Well... don't quite know why, but part of the Chinese voice that I heard was the colors... the vibrant red and gold yellows (of sparky things and fiery things that burn). Maybe it is because my parents had a beautiful oriental rug that they bought in China that had those very colors in it... And maybe it is also the voice of the delicate movements of the Chinese ice skaters and gymnasts that I so love to watch...the graceful flitting and flying... I don't know... but I enjoyed your write very much! :~)
A beautiful write that shows even with strength theres fear, wanting to get ahead yet something holds us back, a great write kate. Words that can be read so many ways. Thank you for sharing.
This comes from a heart that would stay back without a second thought to protect another,,, a fellow man or woman sacrificing for a friend..... Just Beautiful,, it makes me cry.
Love and Blessings,

It is a remarkable thing-- poetry-- spouting spontaneously from lips--unaware of the renderer-- its pollen fluttering on butterfly wings, and sometimes happening upon poetic petal-ears-- open to receiving the fluffy thoughts-- a little stop-over on Kate's lobes, and the poem gets picked up by bee-legged pen next... off to the hive, where busy bee fingers type, and then... honey-nectar for the rest of us to sip. Very Spring-beautiful. --Charlie
Your poem reminded me a little of the praying mantis. Its strength and yet lightness in which it moves. So vulnerable yet feared in its own right. Your metaphors are superb my friend. Peace, Love and Blessings Always, Paul.
I am undone by the power of your pen - in tribute to sacrifices, made - and for the innocents, caught between enemy fire - run, butterfly, spread your wings and fly - well done.
Oriental writers always combine nature and winged creatures such as butterflies bees, birds, etc for metaphor,to enhance their message. You also use their tender lilting sing-song voice to express the theme. Lovely prose, with a message, Kate!
A Literary Pollinarium! Packed with spring pollen to dabble your fertile quill in flowering plants eagerly assisting the process of plant reproduction and writing exercise through the light-as-a- butterfly proboscis quill - I see the honeybees that live in the glass-walled pollinarium zipping in and out of the plastic tube to pollinate the flowers outside through the chamber of UV, prismatic light. I render Run, Butterfly, Run as a report via poetry of thoughts on a reproductive message in analogy to co-exist - all things nature...fire, air, earth, water, spirit...somewhere over the rainbow...the peace found in of song Judy Garland...Be well, Kate...
Butterflies are God's creatures and i believe they have spirits and let us know from our loved ones. Each to their own, the spirit of loved ones has come back to us by a butterfly, we know for certain this is true. Beautiful creatures to show beauty to us and let us know God's creation is pure and simply wonderful.
