This old faithful is my equivalent of a fat tub of Ben&Jerry's when my mood is grim and I feel like scabbing about in a smelly jumper ten sizes too big! It's slightly reworked since October 2004. Rise up, People, and vote for fresh winds of hope... otherwise B&J will rule the world along with oversized knitwear companies... xx

HOLD ME LOVINGLY

Hold me lovingly like a book
flat open in the palm of your hand
so you can feel the bones
of my spine.

Scan my face for traces,
my meaning concealed
in the body of your
favourite text.

Run your fingers phrase
by phrase from head to toe
through each and every word,
missing nothing.

Press me breathless to your heart
and let me be unseen everywhere
in the centre of your gaze,
the thought that lingers long.

Let me be your inspiration
on yet another sunlit day,
for I’m nothing if left
unopened.

THE LONGINGS OF THIS POET FOR A FRESH 'WIND' IS EXPRESSED SO BEAUTIFULLY...THE FULFILLING HAS TO BE RAPTUREROUS! I KEEP TELLING PEOPLE THAT A TRUE POET'S 'SIGH' IS MELODIOUS. WELL DONE KATE AND THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS 'KEEPER'. LOVE AND BLESSINGS,

Thta is True Kate, if not Unopened, who would know you!
Love your writing style!
I must delve in awhile...
It's been too long, I'm in the middle of making Monkey Bread, pull apart cinnam/sugar gooey etc. bread, with apple filling in between, but B&J. does me fine in comforting needy times! My favor. N.Y. Super Chunk... or Everything!
WRITE ON! Your words always linger with me, after I leave... and I must always come back. I will try more often :)
You as an open book is intriguing and well needed!

Until now I thought I knew books, knew how to how, how to read, how to caress and make one a part of me and me a partof it. Was I behind the times and unknowing! This writing is the epitome of endearment and the last word in reading a love of the heart! Write on, My Sweet, for you have talent unused. - Bill

This is crafted to perfection with the book metaphor!
it can be perceived in many ways, I feel the sensuality
that exists, but somehow I've always found handling and
reading a book has sexual undertones;-)Superb Kate!

I truly like this poem and the analogy of you as a book appeals to my love for the spoken word and the warmth of a good woman. You do justice to both in this write Sweet Kate and as always your words give me comfort.

Kate,

EXQUISITE. Beautifully penned metaphor: always been told not to believe everything being read. Don't buy that: do buy this. Damn. Wish YOU were running for President, you'd have my vote!! Well done, and pray for America ...

This has so many different layers/pages to it...some more in depth and personal than others... One layer makes me want to go and curl up with a favorite book and devour its contents and well-read passages again. Another layer makes me want to be enfolded within the safety and security of the arms of the man I so deeply love. To be so "opened" is scary because it opens one up to the pain and betrayal that so often abounds in the world...but as you so aptly state..."I'm nothing if left unopened." Throughout, your words lend hope and offer glimpses of those rays of sunshine that do come after the winters of our lives.

P.S. Maybe the mood has something to do with trying to find organization in chaos after a move...at least it has been in my new home! hee, hee... Hope your new world is more organized than mine at this point!
