As the saying goes, "I don't know where this came from!" A result of all that I have been reading, I guess. I have had a very special 2009 in many ways and, although not unaware of the on-going challenges our "global village" faces, am resolved to being and doing what I can where I am in 2010. Now there's less than 17 minutes left of the Noughties in Dorset this evening; I hope for each one of you what it is you wish for yourselves in the coming year and decade ahead - and especially that you stay safe and well. New Year hugs and kisses, Kate xx

YEAR’S ESTUARY

Each moment ripens
another bruise:
the old year is dying;

leaving behind its stagnant pools
and eddies of brambled laughter,
it has nothing more to live for.

Another year drunk on swollen
love and incubated hatred,
daily corpses blossomed
in its florid undertow.

Silence, like blowflies,
already invades it, its dreams
a shipwrecked paradise,
a death-row morning star.

Worm-like it writhes still
with every passing bend;
ouroborous its beginning
swallows up its end;

Orphaned, homeless,
everywhere in exile,
a lost thing returning:

its chill-warmth ebbs now
suddenly.

This is also a very apt write for the end of 2009...it is now officially 2010 and Happy New Year Kate and may 2010 bring you happiness.

May the Lord Bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and walk by your side. With love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your den sister Barbie

I can't say why exactly, but this reminds me of that old Humfrey Bogie --Katherine Hepburn movie "The African Queen".

The last decade needs to be put to rest. THe 80's were the best, but the zeros had no heros at best it was a bloody mess.
The chimes of Big Ben for 2010, I hope brings hope.
Your poem is more poignant than you may realise until you reread.

Kate, I am glad that 2009 is over, the highlights for me were the birth of my darling grandson, the engagement of my oldest daughter, and now the engagement of my youngest daughter (on Christmas!). That is what I will remember 2009 for but everything else is a fleeting memory! Onto the new year, it is going to be fabulous!

Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

The first of 2009 January we welcomed that year with hope and it slapped us with everything there is of Murphy's Law. Hope 2010 is not another sneaking one abusing our welcome!

Thank God for the new year; this old one is dying. On the way out. Hopefully, we can start again, and pray we don't muck up all the ones previous ... but, history being what it is, we'll probably kill it in its first hours of life. :( Well penned, Kate, I pray your 2010 is blessed with health and prosperity, and all things GOOD - because you deserve it.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Kate, you have put an intriguing end to the year about to be in the past tense here in my town -- every year begins with the limitless possibilities of a prodigy -- and surely but slowly humanity manages to successfully malign each and every piece of prospects for advancements to mankind -- may this dying ember of human maligned time be allowed to slowly slip the bonds of memory and die without inflicting further torture upon earth -- too many I's and lies infected any possibility of an advancement to humanity -- greed and sibling rivalry among nations was the portent of its fate -- and so the hour glass has been refilled with the pristine sand of optimism -- let the march begin that will advance us through another segment of time -- peace and love to you my dear friend -- and my wish for a very Happy New Year to you -- Jon Michael

I LOVE IT!!! I'm not the only one who went into a dark place for the New Year's poem, and even darker for tomorrow's offering. Happy New Year, Kate, to you and all that you love . . .
