LOVE IS


Love is that thing with feathers
that flies true r than a dart;

that takes a soul upon her wings
or cures a poisoned heart.

Love is the trilling nightingale,
the gentle dove, the lark

whose warbling soothes the weary day
and pushes back the dark.

Love is the eagle and the beast,
their searing shafts of vision;

their rabid hunger for the feast
their untamed mind’s incision.

Love is the perfect, full-blown rose,
her petals and her thorns,

that conquering hero’s crown makes glad,
maid’s tender breast adorns.

Love makes the sunset and the dawn
so masterfully brushed,

their aphrodisiac scent released
the more their skies are crushed.

Bravo Kate great capture of a difficult topic...especially love the rose and thorn symbology for we must take the good with the bad when we truly love someone.

I think this is one of the best definitions of love I have ever heard... and it is said in such a beautifully poetic way. Each analogy was perfect... and I loved that you included the thorns and dark within the analogies, for those are what make love truer and deeper and more meaningful--the fact that we can survive them together.

Be still my heart...This is so romantic, Kate, what a wonderful tribute to love. So true that the difficult times are when love blooms the most fragrant. I hope you had a very happy Valentine's Day Kate. I miss not being here to read you more often. I need to find a way to balance life and allow more room for The Den.

What a wonderful poem, "Love Is."
As Jerry comments: In life, we are publicly committed "until death us do part."

But for me and my beloved, we commit beyond our lives, expressed in how we say our goodnights:

"I love you."
"I love you more."
"I'll wait for you at Heaven's door."

We believe that God's gift to us does not have to end simply because we have moved from Earth to live in the Heart of God. Love is eternal.

Descriptors of love's beauty around us. Within the heart's capacity to appreciate...and some of us are going to fare better than others in love. Love Is something in us that is primordial and abiding. Promising and full of eternity, it radiates completeness, Kate...be well.
