Success!!!! Day 2 and I have resisted The Urge To Purge! Yey! :)) xx
Too old for change, we let
Sleep equals the softest of rain
The scant few seconds scattering damp earth before
Their proud fertility
Weaving good-byes, fingers crossed against
A drift of passing days
Mysteries. I don’t want them unravelled –
But I play the part
I’m cast in: carrot on rope, rabbit
The bay horse
Tied to tracks.
Children define us: travels, success,
Despite all our learning flowering and fruiting are still
Equations
Against a dark window and time
You leaning forward, lighting my cigarette
Its scent is sharp as a knife’s nick
You sat too near
In the mirror our heads were close together
We shuffle, cough, offer the last excuse,
The M6, rush-hour tailbacks, evening rain
It is more darkness the world is fighting for
We must meet up at other times, we say,
For there to be any mistake
Facing the long drive home
Towards the surfacing of dreams
What I have done here is simply to order and enjamb random lines, each from a different poem, without changing a single jot. Hence the syntax isn't quite right on occasions, or the meaning isn't quite square, but I haven't done any "tidying"! BINGO! :)) And I'm trying to dispense with titles this month in order not to give any extra "clues" which might force an interpretation.
Kate, this routine you are embracing requires a great deal of discipline -- a poem created with a collage of random lines that actually make for interesting reading -- peace and love be with my friend -- Jon Michael
Glad I read your comment Kate before I left mine as they seemed to be fragmented thoughts that I was going to pass on as to them making any sense to me at least. Each stanza left me with a different thought.
Now...if you were born in Stratford-upon-Avon...and your name was Bill...but, just being a lass, I thing you do it well!!! (LOL; couldn't resist a little Hamlet jab!)
Blimey! Thanks for getting into all this so wholeheartedly, People! :)) It's gonna get a tad irritating if I seek to clarify everything after going all out for randomness and a sense of inspirational and interpretational freedoms, but since Charlie is gunning for this herself, I thought I'd just make it clear that the above is a "found poem" in the sense that none of them are MY lines; I just went through a small current anthology and lifted lines in it which I had previously highlighted as interesting, then ordered them as above into a single entity.
But the main thing is, however you take it, I am so pleased that you are! Easter joys and blessings to one and all, and my thanks for your encouragement in this process. K xx
This reads a lot like a "before and after" game of Wheel of Furtune (one of those ideas I tried, but it didn't work at all). About halfway thru, there was more cohesion between the lines, which makes me kind of jealous, because then, you see, your muse was cheating a bit in your favor. But I like the idea of the poem being random like that, so I think I'm going to do the same tonight-- try to match you, only I think I'm prone to cheating too, so I'll make up my rules right here and now so I won't muck it up (or tidy up for better meaning either).
I'm numbering my strips of paper 1 thru 18 twice-- one set on red paper, one set on white(that's all my currently posted poems). The first draw will tell which poem (by date) I'll snag a line from. The second draw will tell me which line to use. If the number is on red paper, I'll draw two numbers and add them together for that. When I'm out of papers, I'm out of lines. See ya.
You're an inspiration, Katy-did. Keep 'em coming. --Charlie
