My broad-leafed innocence
envied the pine its height,
the cedar its spread,
the willow’s elongated roots.

Now no longer the colour
of ravenous spring,
I’m tall with the length
of my own summer lawns,

high on the heady scents
wafting through
my neighbour’s fence.

Love, love, love it. KB at her most descriptive; articulate and graphic, English Rose best.
