It’s amazing what comes to us in bottles:

loss of wrinkles,
mops of thickening hair;

victories of sleep
over besieged and
crippled matter.

But the readied ship laden
with her cargoes of charms
and castaway, sand-written
messages

is no jaw-dropping miracle

til within the glass her mast
is raised and her sails
hoisted and trimmed,

gathering all sudden winds
(from no place/somewhere)

to summon the many
unseen tides and
speed her safely home.

a craft in a bottle plies unseen winds and tides -- 'til moon beams are bottled and there are no more dreams -- a bottle at a time the sot builds his own thickening plot -- great read here Kate -- have you skippered her yet? -- peace and love be always with you my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Wonderful Kate, as a child I often stood looking out at the water wishing a bottle would appear with a special message, still waiting.

Newfie hugs, Rose

the sea of unknown possibilities is bottled up in its own shapeless form, constantly maneuvering not to be broken on the reefs of its endless journey ...

Whatever happened to the real messages in a bottle? are we running out of fantasy, or beliefs, or we just don't think that somewhere someone will find it and touch our heart with an answer?

There is that mystique about a bottled ship, and bottled messages. Then there's that old song,"If I Could Save Time in a Bottle"...oh, and "Message in a Bottle."

Then, there's canning. I don't know if you've read David Hightower's one about pears..., where the sweet smell of sugar-water and pears lingers in a home built from such scents. And for me, there's the bottles that I'm constantly refilling, which sustain the life of the most audacious little girl ever.

Bottles of Tabasco sauce, green olives and ketchup, liquid makeup (a true blessing!) glue, laundry detergent...everything liquid and marketable, everything yummy and sealable, years of small change on a closet shelf (I saw one man who kept a fortune that way), and on and on... It really is amazing. Well, my ship sure went sailing here. Best be on my way. --Charlie

As an "old" sailor and getting older this write appealed to me in two ways...the fact that so many releifs are now bottled to slow down the aging process but yet the bottled messages of a castaway can bring dreams of forever for sender or receivor. Enjoyed this o ne Kate...good job.

Often wanted to see them hoist the sails in those bottled ships. You keep sailing along towards your goal in this month of creative writing and you haven't let us down yet, sweet princess.

Hugs,
Georgexx
