She took paper
wondered if she could be strong
breathed shallow, shed tears
shakily crafted crippled lines
hastily pocketed the words
walked thin-shirted into
bitter easterly winds
stumbled through stubble
the length of the harvested field
faltered across the narrow span
of the canal’s swing bridge
and came to
the old wall’s dislodged brickwork.

She made herself
conceal the note
and turned to leave

She let herself
conceal the note
and turned to leave

the old wall’s dislodged brickwork
and came to
the canal’s swing bridge
faltered across the narrow span
the length of the harvested field
stumbled through stubble
bitter easterly winds
walked thin-shirted

back into the dark
and airless place
where she had

hastily pocketed the words
shakily crafted crippled lines
breathed shallow, shed tears
wondered if she could be strong…

She took paper

ad infinitum Kate -- cyclical is as cyclical does -- a merry-go-round of self analysis of personal style or traits -- interesting, entertaining and very creative -- a habit of your abilities it seems my dear friend -- may peace and love be always with you -- Jon Michael

I find this captivating from start to finish and find myself wishing it would go on; to me, this opens up many possibilities and scenarios. Thank you, Kate. Love and best wishes,

Regis

taking the paper is always a better option than leaving it, especially when its crippled lines need the strength of whom inscribes upon it ...

substance, clarity and style are pocketed really well ...

Oh, this is grand, Kate. What a great idea. Is this the sdrawkcab one you were tickling Axilea's ear about? That takes some talent and hard work to get these lines to work so well in reverse. We see it all so clearly--her raw, buck-bare emotion--go with her one step at a time, and find ourselves rooting for her without knowing the why or wherefore of her actions.

Wonderful idea. Sort of a modern-day rendition of the ancient chiasmus. --Charlie

This puts me in mind of old spy networks or French underground where messages are left in drop points. Loved it.

Quite an interesting way you did this beginning and ending the same stanzas over and over...I am going to have to try this sometime...
You are really doing a fantastic job on writing everyday. Each poem is uniquely different than the last one..I am enjoying this journey with you Kate..Keep a stiff upper lip and open mind and heart and more will flow from your fantastic pen that only you can compose...

Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
