... something I seem to know a lot about these days! :)) xx

FALLING INTO SLEEP

The sun desiccates in motes
before heavy-lidded eyes,

coating the soft underbelly
of a mind and gathering
beneath an unseen skin

as slowly World winds
herself inwards, sealing
her daytime treasures in
twilight's drawstring bag.

Deep-pile sleep sloughs
its drowsy pelt, subduing
watercolour thoughts as

fumbling fingers run lightly
over its rising velvet plush
the more to savour the
darkening plunge-pool
nap of it.

AHHHH...IT'S SO RELAXING...THIS WORK...YOUR PHRASES 'SOFTLY' DRAWS THE CURTAINS, TURNS OFF THE LIGHTS AND MELODIOUSLY SAYS...GOODNIGHT. THIS IS ONE 'PERFECT' LULLABYE. SO APPRECIATED, KATE...THANK YOU FOR THIS KEEPER. LOVE AND BLESSINGS, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

I am in a complete state of adoration ~ I have fallen in love with this poem. It's softly and warmly beautiful. It's mystical and magical. Your words are the only words; this poem waited just for you.

strange how this poem reflects my own mental state at the moment as far a metaphor goes ... falling into sleep has become a very strange commodity lately ... btw, luv the poem ...

There are some excellent images and transmutations here! Your "sleep" surely metamorphosised into social commentary at times, and at times ponders inside the human psyche, what one would call the "I-ness"! Well done, Kate!

Sleep, sometimes is like sinking on a warm quick sand pool without the feeling of panic, just of peace, starting an inward journey...

Sleep is like a velvet filled tomb, darkness and plush at the beginning, while eyes flicker beneath closed lids, dreaming in that state of experiencing other worlds, and waking finally refreshed and enlightened only to do it once again and again and again...Oh the love of that sleep escape, I sometimes wish I would just live there and never awaken to the "real" world... Your poem is dreamy for the dreamers, and quite filled with all of the Katerisms that make you such a unique and lovable poetess.

Much peace, love and light,
Amber

That's a lot more work than pulling a pillow over your head. But yours is more interesting. Patrick

Oh, how I love this, Kate. Half the charm is in all that luscious alliteration-- "World winds herself inwards" and "Deep-pile sleep sloughs..." and so on. But the other half--the bigger half--is this ability of yours to pull out the emotions of the reader through your "heavy-lidded" imagery... to the point where we, half-drowsy ourselves, have to snap out of our own "darkening plunge-pool nap [at the end] of it".

"fumbling fingers run lightly over its rising velvet plush"... this is simply gorgeous... all throughout. --Charlie

Kate, this pleasureful state, a pool of refreshment for mind, body and soul is an elusive friend I wish to visit with -- yet he bids me not welcome frequently enough -- a tease that taunts and hides at the edges of reality, never extending the hand of welcome to peaceful slitude -- I too long to play at least at my will, in the "darkening plunge-pool, nap of it" -- I'll freely admit your work here is to be envied my dear friend -- an entertaining rendering with words selected that illicit the perfect semantics -- may peace an love be always with you my dear friend -- Jon Michael
