TIME

She is huntress, attaching,
in the early hours, sleek sandals
to fleet and nubile feet, filling
her youthful quiver with clutches
of sharpened arrows to stalk
the plenty of life’s game.

Midday finds her skinning, jointing
and salting, salivating over spoils
of her latest tender kill.

Sated at eventide, she has
merely strength to fire her
sole remaining feathers into
cloudless moonlit skies,

seeking to be laid to rest
wherever they may land
on her final earthbound flight.

Time, she is captor, holding
past to future skewered
in her gloved and velvet fist.

time is indeed the hunter and the pray seeking to persevere in its own demise ... capturing what is held by everyone ...

I agree with Reg, Kate. Bur time is more than a combined metaphor. It is something that stand still for no one, and presses on its journey through the ages. Thank you for sharing sis, and be safe.

Love & hugs,
Barbie

PS: I am in the hospital in Traverse City, Michigan waiting to have a stent put in my heart later today. I wrote about it in my blog. Take care and be safe. :-)

Kate - enjoyed your personification of time as huntress, especially the image of those last three lines;

Time, she is captor, holding
past to future skewered
in her gloved and velvet fist.

Yes, time is indeed a captor, a glue, holding past to future. You pack a iron fist inside velvet gloves; though you end it with velvet fist. There is desire, imagination, a whole package of mystic meandering - a great allegorical rendition, Kate!

From the very first line, your descriptions are just great and the first stanza creates a very effective introduction. Then come your rich and surprising four stanzas that made me imagine a somewhat mercurial, thievish and androgynous huntress. With the last three lines, I'm left wondering if "she" is just hungry, greedy and/or naive. Powerfully allegorical piece.

I love this Kate, time is female ummm, I can feel that for sure..I especially love the very last stanza, velvet fist..so tender that she let's time slip through her silken hand...
Nicely done, one of your best.

Peace, love and light,
Amber

Ok here goes...I'll take one here for Ed Matlack.

Time is a huntress,
She scours the drawers for a lost watch
Can't find it she returns to the mall
But not before she turns off your game
And marches you down straight the hall
But first a stop at the powder room
A visit that extends for an hour
To primp and prep her condition
Attempting to smell like a flower
Then a further search for her house keys
And another sweep of the jewel chest
To account for what's yet to be bought
Then off to hunt for the bargains
Your neck in the iron glove she's wrought

Ed, you owe me

Kate, time the convoluted master skewers today, yesterday and all of the tomorrows on one skewer. And thus, she is the tight fisted mistress ever preying, ever relentless. A marvelous rendering. Mythology and the ever present searcher venturing into the edges of the surreal. May you know the blessings of joy, peace and love always my dear friend. Jon Michael

A day and a lifetime in one, Kate,...Diana on the prowl sorting us out...and then comes the transition in the third when she leaves flesh alone and aims for the heavens where souls go to rest and time dissolves, past and future irrelevant...as indeed they are.

Visionary.

Yes Kate, time does definately seem to be a woman and as a man I won't try to justify that for she would probably win and I would lose.
