This is an "extra" NaPoWriMo that somehow never saw the light of day in April... can't now believe that I must somehow, somewhere have written two poems in one day, but that seems to be the case!
STILL BORNE
"I feel him gone.
I feel the space
inside me
where he laid
his head..."
Foetus or phallus,
a woman’s cradle
bears the loss,
PROFOUND!!! INDEED A WORK THAT ANY WOMAN 'WHO HAS OR NEVER HAS' BORN THE PAIN OF SUCH A LOSS CAN RELATE TO. TO CARRY A CHILD FULL TERM AND THEN... Kate, a powerful poem. Moving. I'm not surprised but I'm happy to see that you're writing as well as ever, even as you tackle such a difficult theme. -gene.
This is a well written poem of loss, remorse, and at the same time anticipates for resurrection, rebirth to complete the full-circle, that cycle of life! Excellent minimalistic work, Kate!
One poem that we are lucky to not have missed! I have been in this same position, once, it was a boy also. I was only 4 months along. but still it was a huge loss..You are an amazing woman, and I am so grateful to know you.
This poem is a gorgeous mix of shadows ~ of loss. So much is about timing in life. So often it seems like the timing alone is all wrong, yet everything else perfectly right,and it's very painful.
And also, I get this on the level of having lost five little tiny creatures in my womb. To me, though, it feels much more about losing little bits of yourself as you go through life as a woman, just being able to cope but no more, heartbreak after heartbreak, until that awakening that comes from the divine both here on earth and after.

Foetus or phallus... I am awed by your ability to include so many possibilities into one small poem. I have read it three times so far and each time come away with yet another possibility.
The potential of what might have been, dashed for eternity. In the soul and heart of the unfortunate, the woman that should a mother have been exists a void as immense as the universe. Grief, a word falling woefully short of her emotions. "Still Borne", the tears flow for a lifetime in the silence of grieving that only abates, yet never vanishes. "dead until it glories in his timely resurrection", so powerful Kate. You have soldiered forth with these emotions sharing, telling, wondering, asking. Beautifully expressed my dear friend. This has to be one of the most difficult occurrences that a woman, in particular, has to endure; having carried the child and looked forward to meeting them in their born life, and suddenly losing them before, for what ever reason. I can have a reasonable feel for this, but never like what a woman does, as they go through it.
Now, I think words just pour out of you, Kate ... a waterfall of greatness on your lips. Thank you for sharing this very personal writing, friend.
"Still Borne"... The poem carries pain and feelings of grief for any woman who has had the misfortune of miscarrying or bearing a stillborn child; but to me, it also carries that wonder and underlying joy that can be present in reveling in the fact that regardless of length of life, the woman bore a child and is a mother of a child. The last stanza sings of hope and of peace that has come with the realization of these thoughts. And thus it is for me... who waits with hope and joy for the day of resurrection.
This short piece, Kate, brings on a rush of thoughts and, thankfully, not necessarily in 'the right' sequence...the response is visceral...the pun in the title and on 'resurrection'...sex, romance, religion, loss, femininity all jumble in my head - not in your words - but as I say that's the response the poem invokes and I'm glad it displaces me in this way...only good writing does that.
Does he need viagra? A woman's cradle is divine if one saves his a special time to make such a perfect thing so divine.
No-wonder you're the best man of mine.

Misses out on all that NaPoWriMo stuff, I had to get the hell outta Dodge. Just a reader now, but maybe I'll be coming back in a few months.
This is a woman's poem, men can try to offer up their thoughts about it, but it takes a woman to feel what this well-written piece conveys. I can say I feel the pain, but how the hell could I? I damn straight sympathize though.
