Smoke On The Water

An experiment of three poems in one: one read across, two down. The really cool thing would be if all three poems had slightly different senses and meanings, but alas mine are pretty much the same! :)) xx

PS Sorry about the tiddly print but seemed necessary to get the format to fit the available page.

PPS It weren't me that put the ruddy wiggles in it... on the edit page it's perfectly straight! :)) xx

 

SMOKE ON THE WATER

 

so what if                                                      there is smoke on the water

a fuming wrath                                             that drifts un-netted

burns up life                                                 before our very eyes

our well-spring stopped                             so we shall never drink again

 

we send our silver men                              to waterless planets

to drill for knowledge                                   we look to the future

yet liquid rock                                                in gutted repulsion

spews back                                                   at what we have done

 

our earth sign revolts                                   Taurus has blazing nostrils

and tilts his horn to plentiful revenge        El Toro brings down

his steaming iron hoof                               his black-scorching punishment

all-consuming                                               with ire's flame

Can you believe? Rigor Mortis Deep Purple. Burial at sea somewhere where the treasure chest is weighted down in tarnished wrath and the gold coins will never spend the soul's revival...buried...buried, buried as the cedar rots in evangelical putrid attitude and nasty rebuttal.

Kate, the whole of this rendering speaks with the authority of the heart. Your heart my friend. Its voice is loud, crystal clear in image and resolute in message. Your vehicle of choice though novel, provides only the ride. Not the propulsion. For it is your humanitarian concern and compassion that light the rocket fuel, poetic verse, serving as motive force. For me it doesn't matter which way I read, down or across or both, it all makes sense...not logic but heart and gut sense because the images are of a mind.. and you, well you are something else.

Vivid imagery. Kate...your form feeds the mind. I also love the title. Taurus is my moon sign, and I never associated it with such dark force and power. Makes me wonder and smile.

Kate, this is such an amazing accomplishment..I had to read the two separate ones twice and then i read it as a whole, and omg, you have created such a masterfilled poem with amazing grace and with an epic theme. I applaud your brilliance and think to myself can I do this?

I am going to try to do one of these, it will be quite interesting to say the least...I will go one step further as you stated and make the two separate themes and see if the one as a whole works as a third separate theme. Okay I have too much time on my hands..lol

Those wiggles together with the juxtaposition of images add to the points and counterpoints made in the "a-cross- stitched" poem. The two "down" poems are rich and absolutely top-notch! I like the way all the three amalgamate into one-whole, yet they remain distinct streams of thoughts!
