Hi di hi! Just been experiencing a bit of turbulence in the tail feathers this side of the Pond lately... Various members of the family taken sick and a near-miss road traffic accident which damaged my car but thankfully not me! :)) xx

STORM

Like a full-term pregnancy it looms
announcing something’s about to drop.

A wrecking-ball of restlessness,
an uneasy shifting of balance and weight
and cracking spine of sudden pain.

Gathering together loose curtains of cloud,
it clutches at reeling screens of trees,
bursts through with heaving breaths,
proclaiming damp arrival.

Everything scatters within rustling,
whining, white-noise sounds.

Moaning long or screaming short,
suddenly it’s over with sated gurgling
in gutters and incoherent babbling in
overjoyed eddies of tearful streams.

Pregancy is a very good metaphor for a looming storm, and a looming storm could be a very good metaphor for pregnancy. Very original.

A classic metaphor reinterpreted with a personal touch Kate, and it ends so beautifully. Captivating and effective use of sounds and alliterations. Hope that the sun's shining after the storm.

Kaptain Kate, indestructible.

Great description of summer days.
I like how you take us from the gathering storm and right to the final drip, drip, drip. With your breathtaking imagery. xx

You drew me in with that first line, Kate. Excellent. It kind of feels this way in NH right now. Waiting to see how much of it we get where I am. I like how you ended this with a This-Too-Shall-Pass feel. Very nice!

There must be something in the air... on both sides of the pond as I have been feeling that same restlessness in the air--that ominous cloud of change...that I am not sure if I should run from or embrace the rain that falls. May the rain in your life be full of blessings...

Very glad to hear you've weathered the storm, Kate. Oddly enough, I've just played 'nurse' to a tiny pregnant stray, who had quite a rough time of it, but who now is the extremely loving mother of three tiny adorable newborns.

Storms....some caused by man and others caused by Mother Nature...cause all kinds of havoc, don't they? Thank God you are okay, Kate....well written piece.

Love the 'gathering' and 'gathered' images, Kate, the swell, the birth, all rich and vigorous...and the blend with personal reaction and emotion is very fine indeed.

Don't like the sound of people 'taken sick' - speedy recovery to all - and certainly not the sound of 'a near-miss'...watch how you go, Great One, and be always safe.

Kate, I love how you wrote this. You describe nature's crazy norms and introduce the sights and sounds unique to her when she's in a peeved state. A bit of stiff upper lip and gritting of the teeth from the old girl. I am glad your road experience left you no worse for wear my dear friend. May peace love and joy ride in the passenger's seat on every journey you make. Jon Michael
