Still Life

STILL LIFE


I tilt my head to consider

the tomb-robbing light
that emblazons the bowl
like feet of an Amazon god;

tanned, hunched shoulders
of reticent pears;

caramelised dimples
of palm-plumped oranges

and blown-kiss pucker
of apple sepals amid
plain protrusion of stalks.

Skin-scent ferment
warms the air:

call it art, if you like;
I call it love.

To find such inert yet alive sensuality in a still life is the mark of an artist. You capture this image as well as any painter could in pastels, oils or charcoal...very nicely done Kate...enjoyed.

Some things look really beautiful and delicious from the outside, but it is what lies beneath that makes all the difference. I love the fruity flavor of this poem, you make for pear cing brain power to decipher your meaning..Men can be like fruit, you mustn't eat of their juices until ripe.
