... Guess we all can know what this feels like from time-to-time, huh?! xx

DISAPPOINTMENT

is the Saturday morning shop-girl whose

ankles have thickened and thighs spread

from just standing there, waiting.

The purpose-driven nurse squeaks by in

crepe-soled lace-ups, but Disappointment

shifts her weight impatiently from foot to foot

on needlepoint stilettos, her moist fingers

ready to grab the hastily-packed bag

that topples ill-concealed behind

the changing-room curtain.

Even while her neck grows long as a

giraffe’s as it strains to reach the top-most

leaves that continue to feed her dream,

clear-as daylight floods through stripped

lower branches and illuminates the path

she should have taken long ago: the one

forged by swift footsteps of women

whose managed lives swish smartly

out the door on their new kicker heels,

leaving three-legged hopefuls to their

worn-souled, shop-soiled schemes.

Let me tell you, this poem does not disappoint your readers, it is clear, sharp and filled with metaphoric images. I will bow to you on this one, reaching as high as one can, especially in kicker stiletto heels, great images, I can just feel all this energy.

Much peace, love and light,

I was disappointed once, until I realized this is as good
as it (I) get. Of course, thats easy to say when you're
twelve going on a hundred and ten. One thing certain, dear
Kate, I'm never disappointed in the way you write. Add my
name to those who love your giraffe. -gene.

Such profound and inciteful wisdom written just beautifully, Kate!
I just love the incredibly apt giraffe reference, and the kicker heels are just perfect ;-)
Here's to putting our souls in charge of our lives from now on!

Is it possible to reach too high? It may well be, but then to slog our way through life is no charm...but we have to do it. Who promised rainbows, perfect sunsets and eternal love? no one, so we go on.
Strong and stronger, Kate, this work, hitting where it hurts, where it's real but how well the blows are told!

Life is fickle and somewhat obscene. To make it all work you have to understand that premise. When the ankles begin to thicken and thighs . . . er . . . spread from the day to day activities, or lack of, if you are aware of the tricks of life you DO something about it. There is always something we can do to change our sad plight, it may not seem like it to most people, they may think there is nothing on God's green earth they can do . . . But there is. You just have to have the grit for it. I liked how you ended this, Kate. Swishing smartly out the door, leaving the dross behind. Gotta love it.

I tripped over this one but it illuminated me and I failed to fall. I saw the past come before me and it was those two legged visions that aroused me in every dream. Seldom do I manage in my smartly half worn sneakers to remember the vastness of life alone.

The perception of dissillusionment and the bitter sadness of dissappointment seems to permeate the lines of this poem with just a hint of hope. We all suffer I think from the "poor me" syndrome but it is our human nature to struggle back and find the good in any bad situation. Love your work Kate....
