‘SLIPPERS’
‘Slippers’, she called them;
in my book, they’re heels:
click-clacking their perforation
through soft-men’s hearts,
blood-spot, ruby red
more razor than her
hot-head, nine-inch pigtails.
And she their finger-clicking Madame,
all got-down in gingham…
‘Slippers’ to me
are the silent type,
soft-souled and sneaky;
less of the rush
and more of the hush
with time to savour
fabric, touch and feel –
less of the Madame,
more of the Memsahib
beaded moccasin and tasselled,
no tap-tap but
wrap-wrap
soft rub
skin on skin…
Magic? Oh yes! :)

WOW: "more razor than her / hot-head, nine-inch pigtails." Come on now, how do you come up with treats like that? And what about "soft-souled and sneaky" - Freudian slip? "soul" vs. "sole?" Either way, it's perfect! Soft-[souled] gives more of the personification to the item, as well as being an intriguing curiosity to the reader. Kate, you don't do things "by accident;" this is just wonderful!

Hmm, the skin on skin could bring s.kin.
Your voice is clear, and magical as ever, too. xx

fabric, touch and feel"...
Oh! What I'd do without my heelless pair...that
flatten out my day-to-day springing clangour
and...hurry things forward...in my 24/7 life.
Thank you Kate, for making my day!
I love to wear my pair of soft red slipper shoes, and there is always a certain kind of energy to match. This is the first poem I have read, I was happy to see you posting. I just got a new computer today, just set up. I have not had one in many months and have not been writing. Time to inhale deeply and find some inspiration, and best place to start is here :)) xo Christine
I like the way defined between the heels and the slippers. Great poem!
