Second time in two days that I've read the word sepia. I have to write about this colorful bit of poetry.
First of all, the inspiration for this bit, "Ablution in Banjos" is quite remarkable. His style, distinctly his own. But I love how you play off of a few lines within it.-- the burning fire of love.
First thing that comes to my mind is old photographs from the 70's that have faded to oranges and browns, where I pick up the word "sepia" and then turn it into flames. From there, it's like a silent film, unfolding in flutter-frames of motion, slowly, we see, we read a line, we see, we read, and so on.--the silent screams, the wild eyes, the crowd's wordless noise, the flames, the smoldering homes, the frantic glances, epiphany...
No, life isn't like that, but metaphorically it is., which is, after all, just as real, if not more real than kinesthetics. Love. It reels. It reals. It burns to blazes inhibitions. I imagined so much in your wounded smile line--the truth of how we hide pain behind lips bent upwards--wounds stitched in place with surgical precision.--a surgical decision to mask everything singed. But when the second home catches fire, then all changes.
"Unstitched wound" says all of this to me. The moment when it burns away and her mouth turns to flame is the denouement . Resolution. Transcendence. They walk away from burnt facades. A silent movie that's both surreal and beautifully true all at once. I like it.
Makes me want to write a poem called, "Like That." Only I can't write a poem like this, like that, because I don't have talent like this to write like that. So, I'll just have to read and wonder at beautiful poems written like this.
time or space cannot separate the consummation of spirit of those who are alike in form and thought even when life attempts to decimate their connection .... very unique, Kate ... i really "like this" poem ...
Ominously gripping and very effective; thoroughly thought-inciting. Well done, Kate! By the way, I love your profile photo. Love and best wishes to you,
Ahhh . . . I believe the timing is perfect for the eventual destruction of "it is like this." You penned a unique poem to give us warning, but I say the warning has come much too late.

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
