Days go by so fast
When did I last
Read a book, smell a flower
Daydream in the shower?
Can't remember. And yesterday
Is blurred- seems that way
Some memories of the past
Flash by vividly- fast
In the minds eye
In that tiny instant, I
Lose all perception
Of Time. Delicious deception
A sign of senescence?
Or joyous effervescence?
An island of joy?
A psychological toy? /
My mind's unwind?
Cruel or kind?
Whatever its goal
It caresses my soul
A smile breaks out
Within and without-
On my face aglow
Like a magic show.
If Life's a dream
Its a beautiful scheme!
When retirement gives us a lot of time and we age, we do find ourselves doing what you describe so well in this little poem of phrases describing what seems to be happening.
I'm so glad that you seem to find it delightful. I do as well, when a song comes into my mind that I haven't heard in a long time, yet I can sing it almost from scratch.
Lately I find myself dozing off in the middle of things I should be paying attention to, as well.
