Plea for Peace

A plea for peace

We try to control the Globe
Also to tame Earth and Sky
Destroying all things as they were
I'm not sure for what or why.

We pat our backs for being 'evolved'
And bend nature to our will
Basic instincts of old linger
Jealousy, anger, need to kill.

You'd think over all these years
Human beings would have evolved
Shedding all barbaric traits
And all matters violent solved

We used to kill just one-or few
With arrows, swords and spears- gore
Have invented now such means-
Flick a switch, kill thousands more!

Constantly we seek anew
More efficient ways to kill
Wouldn't the world be better off
If for peace we used our skill?

Voices of reason, calmness, love
Have arisen around the World
Drowned out by resurgent vice
Love has wilted- mayhem swirled

As I see grandchildren grow
Hope mindless mayhem will cease
A silent tear rolls down my cheek
I weep, I hope and plead for Peace

Your poem sends the same message with so many others have sent down through the ages as though falling on deaf ears. It is a very good one, but no one is listening/reading/commenting.

We seem to portray those that would travel between the stars to reach us, as some diabolical killers. Is that what we think of ourselves? Is that what we would become when we travel to distant star systems like portrayed in our popular Star Wars series? I hope not and I think not.

I have often stated that we haven't reached, as a people, adulthood yet. We are merely children playing with dangerous things and using the earth as our playground while abandoning it in the process. Instead of making intelligent decisions we are creating AI to do it for us. It is about to bite us in the ass and make us grow up to the challenge of what kind of Earth we have created and need to restore to a more kind and gentle one.

I hope your wish and mine come true soon. There is little time left before ignorance will turn this world into anarchy and destruction like we've never seen before or since.

Ron
