On a whim one day I installed
A birdfeeder, from a pole tall
And a bird bath, in the yard.
The effort easy-not too hard
Undiscovered ,first it stayed
Lonely, in the wind it swayed
It did not take them long to find
The avian and the rodent kind
Birds flock, perch, peck and feed
As if they relish every seed
It seems they spill some purposely
For squirrels awaiting eagerly
As the baffle on the post I fit
Frustrating their attacks on it
Blue jays chase the squirrels away
From the seeds spilt, keep their sway
Red Robbins when they do alight
Ruby-red, a dazzling sight
Feed and do not give an inch
To the fast flitting pesky finch
Doves, though rare, always as pair
Feed on ground on seeds strewn there
On the bath their thirst they slake
Or splash, flap and merry make
At times it feels that all is calm
Co-operation with a feathery charm
Other birds I do not know
Enhance the ever-changing show
This show of avian appetite
Is one of back yards great delight
