On a Fall Day
It was a beautiful, clear morning, the beginning of fall, on the day my twin brothers fell.
For a numb moment, I watched in disbelief, in horror, as two big flying objects struck you in mid-air.
I watched as the morning turned to night. I thought you were still standing my dear friends, however, you were both gone. Cries, shock, horror filled the air mixed with my very own despair!
Get up my friends! I cried but deep down I knew that my cries went unheard because your vitality, glory, and might had been snuffed out by the flying objects in mid-air.
As realization sank in, tears began rolling down my cheeks, my tears mixed with dirt and burning ashes blown from near and far!
I remember when first I met you. You were both equally impressive, equally magnificent—the talk of the town, the talk of the world—and the new boys in town!
Oh, how you vaunted your strength and power before my very own eyes!
Nevertheless, as hard as I tried to ignore you, as much as I tried to avoid you, I, too, was drawn to you.
Frolicked and floated in the clouds, together we watched the morning sun kiss and brighten the blue sky; watched as the night’s dark mantle revealed the stars and moon in the night sky.
You drove the big empire boy to jealousy and rage, but whereas before he wished you never came to town, now he only feels regret and sadness whenever he glances at the emptiness where once you two stood.
With my hand held high and looking into the harbor, I continue my vigil, hoping, praying that your demise was not in vain and that liberty will continue to reign.
And that, that fateful fall day will never be forgotten in the hearts and minds of those you left behind!
