All about oppression and denial,

Poem Artwork

... the artists flare up their voices… the musicians write the lyrics, painters create the images, observers capture the now of it..

 The Take- Over

He oozes in —
by ounce by pound by ton and
numbness begins when He
vampires every single thought,
silences every sound of anyone
around Him, He oozes in —

Logic
 confounds, knowledge fades,
a newspaper, a book page
dying in His thoughtless flame.

Human resolve — the glowing edges
curling, shriveling —  all dissolved,
those artful conjoining efforts and then
the blackening reality, humanity’s
thin ashes drifting
weightless,
the flickering embers
the burning awareness,
 —  the take-over of ours,
the absence of His.

He’s running out the clock for us,
our time to neutralize His ruin and rut,
His crush — while our collective souls resist  —
     — and our multitudes cry,

“Not this!” — “Not This!”

Like Odin, my mind couldn't help but believe that you were referring to a real individual instead of the typical nemesis of the devil in all of us. In your image so artfully done showing the burning of poetry invokes rekindles my thoughts of who you are referring to.

All in all, a beautifully rendered poem of great insight.

First off, interesting how effective the use of capital letters on the He and Him choices was. I found myself on first reading trying to bring a justification to the gender choice, but in the second reading, it became more apparent to me that the "hunter" image is most closely associated with the male (even exemplified in the opening of 2001 Space Odyssey)and for me, even with some rather "hunter" experiences with my wives--they being the hunters--I chose to allow the more masculine actions to prevail. The work also arrested my preoccupation of late with "time" and how it seems to speed up the process of living, as your piece alludes to as well. Overall, I have to admit, the red-faced, blond, and evil blue-eyed demagogue kept popping up in my mind. Much to conjure in this short and succinct assessment.
