Relationship - in all its journey.

Poem Artwork

'Green Chair and Flamingo' -- by Sophie Edell, Quebec

The Empty Other Chair

Once there ran a bonding thread
attaching soul to soul
as close as each could ever be
by blood, by bone they’d grow.

Then in the jaws of time was crushed
their lifeline one to one,
a difference insurmountable
in what each must have done.

What held itself hand-in-hand
through years of change each day,
fragilely amidst the odds
fell slip by slip away —

 And with familiar kind goodbye
the bond no longer there,
this strange and hollow severance
now the empty other chair.

Both your words and your art are stunning Diana, the imagery is stark and real and with emotions, we can all relate to. I really enjoyed reading this, have a blessed day, may you never feel lonely. xo

Separation, divorce and death… It's all here for us to contemplate.

A tight, carefully crafted poem, exquisitely handled. Love the symbolic image (and picture) of the empty chair. Amazing how emptiness can say so much. Beautifully executed. Wish I had written it myself.

Even the pic you've chosen to compliment this poetic venture into the dualism of man and object merge colors and texture of life, the personification of chair and humanness is astounding to read. For many of us, there is identity with this tale of loss. Profound: "What held itself hand-in-hand
through years of change each day,
fragilely amidst the odds
fell slip by slip away__". Your insight into to human fragility is such a gift. Keep it coming, for many of us, it's a lifeline. So rare a talent have you.
