It is so easy to forget that we are connected to the plants and animals. Sometimes we have to force ourselves to take a walk even. This morning I took a one-mile walk and the air was the exhalation of the thousands of trees surrounding me. The scent of them smelled like a place important to me, one I forget is more important that just about everything.
This Day I Lay Down On The Earth
I stop and listen to her sing.
Instead of her listening to me,
To her I am listening.
For those moments in the light
We breathe each other's breath,
Hers from a trillion years ago
And mine with moments left.
A wind of great unspoken things
Blows gently through our hair
And takes us to a different space
Of neither here nor there.
No hand, no face, no age or race,
No fear, no loss or gain.
All that because the both of us
Are one and the very same.
So beautiful and poignant it brought a tear to my eye. While the word trillion is an exaggeration, your 2nd stanza speaks volumes of our insignificance when it comes to the natural world around us.
I try to get out every day for a few minutes to soak up some sun. Even here in suburbia, I am struck with the sights, the smell and the sound of nature all around. Still seemingly thriving with lots of heavenly scented fresh air even though the environment is totally remanufactured by my planned subdivision. But even here, invasive plants from all of the world are thriving in our hot dry conditions and providing food for both human and wildlife.
It's a wonderful world to experience if we just stop multitasking, get out in it and relax.
Ah, the ONE of it all. A ZEN fundamental that is so missing in today's competitive mindset. This piece truly touched a nerve in me as I see and hear your breath just as I see and hear existence of past and future waiting to take purchase. There is such a willingness to give of yourself in this peace and it follows true to how you relate and communicate on this site. Your last stanza is such a comforting sensation of words of purity. I hope many read this and re-examine their love of self in a healthy way. So many fake their reality with no self-love but plenty of self-loathing festering beneath smiles and unauthentic behavior. This read was such a gift to this reader so early in the morning when all is truly quiet.
