autumn leaves dancing
float softly on the quickening breeze,
tiny ribbons of scarlet and gold
drift slowly down..
rustling a plaintive song of farewell
the sighing wind
combs it's chilly fingers
through the sleepy woods
whispering it's ancient song
across pale blue skies
bleached of summers bright hue
geese fly...loosed like arrows from a hundred quivers
singing their mournful tune
as the outflung limbs of the massy trees
reach for the last precious moments of warmth
from summers fading light..
cool tendrils of woodsmoke and mist
enfold the woods...
in autumns heart
I especially like this phrase: "the sighing wind combs it's chilly fingers through the sleepy woods." I love personification. The most imaginative writers are very good at this. It is the best way to help a reader feel, see, taste, smell and hear.

Captivating and admireable.
