Dedicated to Dawn who's outlook on life and death is such that we all could take a lesson from her story...

The Light of Dawn

He was the echo of her tender heartbeat

Through the miles of cyber space

She was his promise of a sweet tomorrow

Though they’d never met face to face

When Ted said he’d never had a nickname

Dawn gave him one to call his own

With love Dawn called him Tedder

Each time they spoke on net or phone

They had met by chance, became good friends

Till friendship slowly blossomed into love

Shared sweet dreams and hopes of forever

They both seemed blessed from up above

Three long years that seed of love grew

With each day they loved a little more

Till finally they knew they had to meet

They both knew this time it was for sure

Plans were made and tickets bought

She packed her clothes sipping wine

Smiled as she heard that familiar beep

Her Tedder was waiting on the cyber line

Her heart gave a little pitter-patter

As the glowing screen soon lit up

Dawn bubbled, “Hun, how are you?”

He answered “Great” over his coffee cup

They talked about the plans he’d made

Both so excited about her upcoming day

Chattered on then something was wrong

Tedder’s voice just seemed to fade away

She thought poor guy he fell asleep

I’ll just say goodnight and go to bed

Dawn wouldn’t find out until much later

She’d lost the shining light that was her Ted

The airline took her home to finally she him

They both dressed in formal basic black

In grief Dawn spoke to him of promised love

But his eyes closed could not smile back

But somewhere in grief she found his smile

In little treasured memories she could keep

She knew in her heart Ted would always live

She wiped her eyes, said good bye,

no more her tears to weep.

Brings to light the reality of cyber relationships. This poem was carefully thought out - a real tear jerker, but back where things need to be in The Light of Dawn - I prefer your more country tunes like There's a Tear in my Beer Hank Williams style - when love was in a realtime tavern and heartbreak was in Elvis' hotel! Good quill, Fee...

Love,
Sage

Beautiful and sad, Darlin. But what a heartwarming picture, given that so many seem to diss the reality of friendships that exist purely in cyberspace. But it IS sobering how time can pass by until it is just toooooooo late to make the meeting actual. On the one hand, this is heartening in the sense that cyber friendships can be mutually sustained almost like airplants - purely on the "air time" that is shared together intermittantly, but knowing the emotional roots go far deeper. On the other hand, perhaps THAT is the way that many face-to-face meetings get delayed... because weeks, months, years can just keep rolling by without any discernible change in the habitual workings of the friendship. I am comforted to know that Dawn did at least get to say a very real "hello/goodbye". That makes the whole thing very, VERY real. Makes me yearn to hurry up and plan my transatlantic sojourn... within the next ten years or so!! :)) Bless you, Felix. I can sense this tragic tale has touched you deeply. TY Kate xx

Many people do not truly understand the bonds we do make here in cyberspace. A wonderful write about finding what was good in any relationship and have that be your guiding light. Well done. Lady J

Hearbreakingly sad but beautifully and tenderly written. Only a man with a heart as big as yours could write such a poignant poem.
A big hug for you Fee.

Just a little clarification...this is a true story and Dawn is a real person, and I asked her to let me share this as an example that the end of Physical love, whether by death, health or break up, is not the end of love that dwells down deep in the heart, that can never be erased...Thank you again Dawn.

Fee, what a very sad, but beautiful story. Dawn is full of light, and she gave Ted some of that for the years they spoke. He was a very happy man when he passed. She knows this and it does give her comfort.
Peace, Love, and Light,

Oh, that's so sad! But at least she gave him happiness in Cyberspace. Could be all he could handle, anyway. Got the neat outline of a short story here, Felix.
